Tactics

Post by Hades »

Does anyone have a favorite tactic for whooping a$$ that they would like to share?

I prefer a massive roctek and heavy arty bombardments and sweep in with massive tanks suported with fast tank destroyers. But this only works late war with only two or three counties.

I usually go for an all armoured game, but occasionally against players who know that I throw in some curveballs.

Usually I have plenty of large calibre artillery.
If you can read this, you're at the end of my post.

I try to avoid artillery except for small bore since the AI does not know how to use it properly. It is just a huge advantage for the human player.

Tactics....

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Hmmmm, this is a tough question really...if only because a lot depends on the opponent you are facing. Not to mention I don't want to give away my own secrets. ;)
First of all...I usually "scout" opponents by reading any DAR/AAR they post...this usually gives me an idea of what to expect from them in a given battle.

For those who favor armor I counter with my own large body of armor and AT units....plus an infantry line. I find that "Armor Lovers" are always good for utilizing traps against, because they tend to roll forward behind arty barrages...counting on mass firepower and brute force to win.

For those who like to use airborne units...a fair section of AA units and HT ( you need the HT's to act as "jagers"...to run down and snuff out AB units as soon as they land!) Otherwise you have enemy troops all over your rear areas causing havoc.

For those who favor infantry a balanced force is best. Infantry mean death to armor if the map is wooded or hilly...so you need to be able to counter infantry with infantry, but you also want some armor to force a breakthrough.

Then there is arty. I am a extreme detractor of arty really...or at least the overkill of it. There are those who love to take loads of arty...to the point that some games become totally unrealistic in my view.
I therefore only participate in games that limit arty to 10-15 %. (20% if they are attacking and I am defending.) Otherwise the arty destroys all balance of the game and the "fun factor" goes right out the window. But hey, that's just me. :)

I'd take you on.

Germany (me) 2800 points delay or defend v Soviet (you) 5600 points advance or assault in early 45. v7.0 or 7.1

Large or medium generated map, preferably not at noon (because that would give my 88's way too much advantage) :D

No air and Command control/true troop/national characteristics ON Rarity OFF
Take all the arty you like.

Let's put your idea to the test.
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.

I agree with Orzel Bialy, recon and Intel ( Via the Forum ) are key.
I try to do anything that will distract the opponet, faints and organized or should I say planned retreats drawing a enemy into kill boxes. But it is dependent on who your playing and what country they are using.

Don't get stuck with always going for the biggest gun, example german 88s are killers, but if you are fighting the U.S. then you would probably do better with 50mmATs and halftracks.

VikingNo2, why don't you tell him about those **** 4 point jeeps you like to park all over the place.  I hate those things! They are easy to kill but just having a jeep know that it is spotted gives you an idea that someone is in the neighborhood. Did I say I hate those things already?

And thanks for the tips on your play, VikingNo2. I thought I smelled a few traps. :D :D
