IJA landed several more units at Lingayen; what seemed to be an impenetrable beach may soon be overrun.

More carnage at Lingayen. IJA is going for an all-out banzai charge tomorrow most likely.

The screenshot below has exerted its capacity to show all the troops present - seems like half a dozen Japanese units are off the screen.

Snapshot: IJN BBs/BCs

Post by Rysyonok »

Here's all known information:

IJN Mutsu/Nagato: Have not been heard from since the beginning of the campaign. That does bother me, since these ships carry 16" guns, the most powerful weapons currently on the board, and they have enough endurance to reach very, very far. They can be off San Diego for all I know.

IJN Ise/Hyuga: Ise is likely to have around 20 system damage from 2 earlier torpedoes, and should be limping back to Kyushu. Hyuga is bombarding Lingayen, expected system damage - 5.

IJN Fuso/Yamashiro: Both are bombarding Lingayen. Expected system damage around 5 each.

IJN Settsu: Same as above.

IJN Kongo/Hiei/Haruna/Kirishima: All four are bombarding Lingayen non-stop, but they have only recently joined the fray. System damage around 8.

IJN Aki/Satsuma: Have not been heard from since the beginning of the campaign. They are most likely guarding a long-range transport convoy directed at... Wake? Midway? Ceylon?

IJN Kashima/Katori: Kashima was a flagship of IJN task force that invaded Tarakan (Borneo, Dutch East Indies). Since then it's been spotted retreating south of Luzon eastward, most likely towards Palau or Truk. Katori was a flagship of the recent landings at Lingayen. It's retreating northward towards Pescadores or Taichu (Formosa).

IJN Iwami: Has not been heard from. Most likely escorting a transport convoy, like Aki and Satsuma.

IJN Hizen: Part of the first wave landings at Lingayen, but not seen since. Most likely escorting a convoy as well.

IJN Mikasa/Asahi: Same as Hizen.

IJN Shikishima: Non-stop bombardment of Lingayen.

IJN Fuji: Has not been heard from. Most likely a convoy escort.

IJN Okinoshima. Part of the first wave landings at Lingayen, but has not been heard from since. Most likely a convoy escort.

IJN Mishima/Suwo: Part of the large convoy that moved southward west of Luzon a week ago. It's unclear as to whether it unloaded northeast of Davao, or it is heading further south towards Australia or Dutch East Indies.

Overall analysis: IJN is spreading its capital ships, assigning them roles of bombardment and escort. Unless that changes in the near future, Japanese battleships and battlecruisers may present easy targets for USN.

France joins the war as Japanese troops land off Noumea. Now only China sits neutral.

This landing also finally locates IJN Mutsu and IJN Nagato in my opinion.

One might ask, why bother with this tiny French colony in the middle of nowhere?

Because it's the only level 9-capable port (currently - 6 out of 6) between Pearl Harbor, Australia, and New Zealand.

And this has just made it a priority...

Submarines continue their rampage; a DD and two Japanese AKs sink.

I was really expecting an attack at Lingayen; IJA really had a chance to dislodge my troops this time. But fortifications have just upgraded to level 1 - and that bought me another 4-5 days...

All available task forces are en route to current Japanese landings. Chances are they are going to be too late... but even intercepting supplies or three-quarters-empty AKs is a nice treat.

RAN and RNZN get their first combat experience. Nothing to boast about - they had arrived too late, and barely had a chance to exchange a few shells with Japanese.

Based on IJN ships spotted there shouldn't be any more heavily armed convoys.

Based on a new landing in Dutch East Indies, there can be numerous light long-range ones...

BC New Zealand vs BB Satsuma

Post by Rysyonok »

Quick comparison of main armament:

BB Satsuma - 30.5cm/45 41YT Gun, 850 effect, 500 penetration, 23 range, 31 accuracy. Two barrels in the front, two in the back.
BC New Zealand - 12in/35 Mk VIII Gun, 850 effect, 495 penetration, 20 range, 10 accuracy. Two barrels in the front, two in the back, four in the center - so the full broadside shot is all 8 barrels.

I guess Satsuma had to maneuver to protect its transports? But why didn't Aki get any shots out?

East New Guinea - 7/3/22

Post by Rysyonok »

There are 4 small, regiment -sized Japanese units in Buna, most likely poised to march west onto Port Moresby.

IJN task force in top right corner is most likely retreating back, having unloaded at Buna.

Australian forces have a small batallion at Rabaul and a brigade at Port Moresby that just got reinforced with 2 small batallions. In the near future that is all I can afford for this area. I plan to transport some coastal artillery and more infantry closer to the end of the month if I see Japanese troops in Buna move west.

There is a division of Japanese troops in Bulla, and it looks like they just got some air support. I am not afraid for troops at Amboina - there is no road there, and disruption alone will prohibit any land assaults.

All I got here are Dutch tankers running fuel to the frontlines. One is heading to Brisbane, another, on the right edge of the map, is waiting for slow, short-range H-class USN subs out of Pearl Harbor.
