Aside from a strike on Tulagi to try to finish off the BB North Carolina Gordon seems to have lost interest in the Solomons. Hopefully my ambush of his fighters and the laying of mines has scared him away. I will take this since it will be at least a month before I can do anything offensivly in the Solomons and any respite helps.

More troops have been sent to Colombo. An attack will come in about a week.

Uncle Winston has asked for one of his CVs back. I guess he doesn't trust me with them any more.

The Empire strikes back

Post by RUPD3658 »

Looks like Gordon has found the courage to go on the offenive again. He caught close to 200 of my AC on the ground at Lautem and shot down another 40 in the air. Not a good day in the DEI. This had been such a quite front for so long I was hoping to keep snatching bases but this may have to wait a while. The only good thing is that this means that the Solomons are as good as mine.

Russel Island is now clear and hopefully Lunga will be clear soon too

Well can you blame him......[:D][:D]

BBs hit mines at Kwaj. I don't think I will ever be able to pull this thorn from my side.

Mines have been cleared from Lunga and supplies are on the way. It should be clear of enemy troops and a lvl 5 AF by the end of the month.

BB North Carolina arrived at Luganville with 86 float damage. I hope I can save her.

Lautem was hit again. There are no planes left there to be destroyed.

RE: Disaster at Munda-6 CVs lost

Post by RUPD3658 »

Lunga is down to 2 LCUs. It should be clear soon. P-38s have been moved here to cover the supply transports.

The long awaited follow up attack at Colombo has been ordered.

BB North Carolina is down to 80 flooding. Hopefully she can be saved.

The battle of the Solomons

Post by RUPD3658 »

P-38s made their first appearance en mass at Lunga and I must say that I am underwhelmed. They shot down A6M2s and Tonys at a 2:1 rate but they also outnumbered them by the same 2:1. What aggravates me is that they did not bother to cover the APDs at Tass which was only 1 hex away. I didn't bother moving fighters to Tass since I figured the P-38s would cover them.

Several planned airstrikes did not fly for some reason. Hopefully next turn will go better.

Colombo should fall next turn. It will be nice to start making some progress here.

Lunga was finally totally cleared out of Jap units.

Post by RUPD3658 »

Colombo held out for another day. I have ordered a shock attck for next turn to take the base.

Wake was bombed. I have moved additional fighters in for a possible ambush next turn. Hopefully Gordon got lazy and ordered the same strike again.

I have close to 300 fighters at Lunga. Once the supplies finish unloading I will move in the heavies and start the bombing of Shortlands and Rabaul. I still need to airlift some AV support to Munda so I can relocate fighters here to make space for the heavies at Lunga.

Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

I finally took the base. Spotted retreating were the 56th division,A reg of the 4th Division, the 24th Eng reg, 3rd air HQ, and the 12th avaition reg. I have a feeling the rest of the 4th Division is at Trim. After a few days of rest and refiiting I will start the march to Trim.

Gordon is showing a disturbing interest in Wake and even had some CVs show up today. The Zeros went after my PT boats at 100 feet and got chewed up by my CAP. My fighters have withdrawn to avoid the expected fighter sweep next turn. I have a feeling a bombardment is coming soon also. This really makes me wish I had CVs so I could do something about this.

First of the CVEs arrived today so I am slowly rebuilding a CV force.

Recon of Shortlands showed no CAP so it will get plastered today by B-24s. I have unloaded enough supplies at Lunga to sustain them.

Recon of Rabul has been ordered to see if it is a viable target yet.

BB North Carolina is down to 24 float so it looks like she will survive

RE: Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

Shortlands got smacked and about 50 Vals/Dinahs were destroyed on the ground. Rabaul had minimal CAP but I didn't get a report on the number of AC there so it is too soon to launch an attack.

Rain in the IO will stop the airraids for next turn. A small surface force has been sent to Andaman under cover of rain to try to bounce the mine sweepers.

RE: Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

Finished off Shortlands and destroyed the last 20 ac on the ground. Munda has expanded to a lvl 5 AF so Rabaul will be in range soon. Recon shows 50 fighters at Rabaul so once the rain stops I might mount a raid. Once Rabaul is neutralized, PM and NG will be taken easily. Until I get carriers I am going to have to focus my efforts here where LBA can support my advances.

RE: Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

Calm before the storm. I am bombing several targets to mask my true intentions. Ambonia, Lae, Sorong, ect will each be bombed as diversions.

The weather has cleared to a massive strike has been ordered against Rabaul. 1/3 of the bombers and all the P-38 fighter escort will come from Munda and 2/3 of the bombers will come from Lunga. Hopefully they can coordinate so that the Lunga bombers don't get killed.

RE: Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

Rabaul was hit hard. My strikes were not coordinated but fortunetly the escorted strike went in first and mostly shut the base down. 200 Jap AC were destroyed on the ground and another 50 in the air for a loss of 66 P-38s and 2 B-24s. Hopefully I killed some of the pilots that had been shooting down my bombers at Munda and Lunga over the last few months.

I am slowly going back on the offensive. Landings have been ordered for Vella lavella and Sorong and an air drop on Torikina. I have to stay within my fighter cover so it will be baby steps for a while.

More PT boats were ferryed to Wake and more mines were laid there. Hopefully this will discourage any future interest in the base. 3 AKs are arriving with supplies this turn so they should be able to hold out for a while if attacked.

RE: Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

Rabaul was hit again and shut down but with fewer losses on both sides. 4 AKs were hit while unloading at Rabaul and 3 should sink.

Landings at Sorong and Vella lavella went well. Hopefully the follow up troops will arrive next turn and attacks can be mounted.

RE: Allies retake Colombo

Post by RUPD3658 »

Vella lavella fell after a single attack. Good thing since my CAP once again failed to intercept a Betty strike even though they are only 1 hex away. The Betty pilots must have been green since they all missed.

Several 1 ships TFs have been spotted at Trim and 3 ships have been spotted in port. I am guessing that the TFs are really subs or barges but strikes have been ordered anyway despite the rain. My LCUs should be at Trim within 2-3 more turns
