Catching out of bounds

Yes this actually happened. This is the first time i've seen this. 2nd and goal from the 2 yard line. The QB hits a WR at the back of the endzone. He was just out of bounds. He caught it and across the screen was a message saying "out of bounds". So what was the result? 1st and goal from the 1 yard line. Odd indeed.

Furthermore, the team ended up kicking a FG. The drive summary shows a completion to the back of the endzone. The green bar stretched across the endzone and a yard past. Very odd indeed.
