COG on Steroids!

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

COG on Steroids!

Post by LarryP »

Wow, three main things I really appreciate in this Emperor's version so far:

1) Main map zooming with the "-" and "+" keys or "Ctrl" + "Right-Click."
2) In game help (and tons of it too) with the "F1" key.
3) Lots of ToolTips when hovering the mouse cursor.

I'm not very far into this new version, yet, but these three items I sure do love! Thanks. [;)]

EDIT: I meant "Ctrl" + "MouseWheel" and NOT "Ctrl" + "Right-Click" which opens an attachment box for the entire province. Seems I can't post anything lately without errors. Getting old... [&:]

Thanks for pointing that out Erik. [:)]

FYI, also Ctrl-Mouse Wheel will zoom in and out for those that have a scroll wheel on their mouse.

Thanks for the feedback, glad to hear you are having fun!

BTW, why "Ctrl-wheel" instead of just "wheel" ? I keep moving around the map unwantedly with the standard use of the wheel, tht is used in most games to zoom in-out, and I forget to use Ctrl ...[&:]
Also, the wheel does not work to scroll in lists/tables (like military units overview), it would be cool. [8D]

There doesn't appear to be any real benefit in zooming out. Everything just gets pixelated and ugly at anything other than full zoom.

Agree that normal wheel zoom would be preferable to the Ctrl-wheel zoom.

What is good is that you have various zoom levels to work with. On the strategic map partial zoom is particularly useful when moving your forces as you see an operational size area. Its invaluable in detailed battle, on stronger zoom initially so that you get a good view of the overall battlefield to see key terrain features, the position of your forces and ideal defensive positions and possible attacking avenues. During actions you can go on closer zoom and jump further out every now again to check for any approaching enemy or on actions further afield. An excellent tool.

I hope this baby is worth it.  I am downloading now.  The lack of leaders turned me off in COG(It lacked Nappie flavor)[:)]

Letting us use just the scroll wheel to zoom would feel more natural. [:)]

I was just following Microsoft guidelines on what scroll-wheels are supposed to do.  Don't blame me, blame Microsoft! [:)]

Understood. Possible to change nonetheless? It's counter intuitive to the way other games work.

If enough other people think that zooming is more important than scrolling with the wheel, I will consider changing it.

Personally I scroll with the mousewheel quite frequently, much more often than I zoom, so personally I prefer it the way it is, but if we get feedback that indicates a clear preference for the other way, I'd be more than happy to make that change.

I prefer to zoom with the mouse wheel.

I scroll too but outside of a gaming screen like this. I see EricBabes point.

Since when has Microsoft been right? [8|]

I vote zoom before scrolling! [:)]

Zoom zoom zoom
I'll take your zoom zoom zoom and raise it with two more zooms.

Zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom.

(i.e. I vote for zoom...)

just for the heck of it [:D]

scroll!!

Nah, I'm fine with either as long as I can still scroll the upgrade menu/province menu with the wheel.
