2 - the # key is supposed to set reaction radius right? well when i press it nothin happens.

3 - in my current battle there have a brigade in column formation sittin next to a line of heights. theres a road runin through them but my infanty isnt able to follow the read through the elevation. any ideas what goin on with that?

For the charge issue, that is unusual if you are charging enemy infantry as there are no restrictions save you have enough movement points (9 I believe) and I believe you can't be fatigued.  Post a screenshot if you could to help us give you better advice.

Same with the road question, kind of need a screenshot to visualize that.

as said, need more info, most times if you can't charge, it will tell you why

(can't charge across river and so on)

you can charge if in any formation, are you sure you are not disordered ?

if disordered, you can't charge and no info is givin ?

I'm getting the same problem to do with the reaction radius # key as tonedog.

Could it be due to a different keyboard layout in US / UK?

Also, what does the exclamation (!) symbol indicate?

Looking at the video tutorial, I think # in the manual is a shortcut for the 1-9 keys (number corresponding to reaction radius). I'll try it out next time I fire it up.

i would've posted some screenshots but after savin half way through the battle ive just reloaded the game to find its screwed up, as in the battle is no longer and im cant click anything on the campaign map. still got an autosave from last turn though.

i guess the game doesnt take to kindly to savin during battles right?

Actually, no it should save during battles just fine.  If you are having an issue, report the behaviour as a bug.  But maybe try to completely exit the game first just to be sure it's not a one-time thing.  Or, feel free to post the save here (in a zip file) and I can check it out.

I also have the charge issue... Never managed a single charge... But I'll read the manual on hex war before I complain :)

I have one quick question, after seeing both the tutorial I tried my hand at hex war. Here's something I noticed:
French Grand Armee I fighting the Full brunt of the Prussian army: 375K Prussian VS 140K I believe french + ALOT more in a neiboring province.

I never managed to seem to do great against ANYTHING (apart other CAV) with my cavalry anyone knows why?
I never managed to do anything to guns even if left alone... These things ARE killer, I suppose CAV should take care of them... But I do not manage to do it...

Are the french inflicting so much more casualties because they are so much better with more moral?

Thanks

You don't actually press the '#' key to set a reaction radius; instead press one of the numerical keys, such as '1' or '2' or '3' and so forth.

There are several things that can stop charges, though there is generally a message when this happens.  Perhaps if someone could post a screenshot of a situation in which he cannot charge, we could see what's going on.

Don't charge guns straight up.  even front diagonal isn't all that great.  Make sure that you have 9 MPs (otherwise nothing happens). You can't charge across rivers, can't charge across elevation, or charge into fortification. It's pretty pointless to charge into villages and woods.

Charge does bigger damage if you are in line formation.  Charging boxed infantry isn't so hot, as they treat all sides as "front" for the purposes of a charge.

Best charge - in the back of an artillery in column formation in farm with heavy cavalry.  Oh, and get some of the upgrades, they effect charge resolution.
