Malaya, turn 1. Hit Singers, not much to report. Thise little green buggers by Sinkep Island are the PoW are Repulse. Not sure where they're headed but they're not at Kuantan which is where we've landed. Also landed on north coast of Borneo.

Ambiona is another target for this turn (no pic, boring). We will, of course, hang around for another day see what we can finish off. Got some nice hits on Battleship Row:

BB Arizona, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
BB West Virginia, Bomb hits 8, on fire
BB Oklahoma, Bomb hits 11, on fire
BB Nevada, Bomb hits 7, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
BB California, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
BB Tennessee, Bomb hits 8, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
BB Pennsylvania, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 1
BB Maryland, Bomb hits 7, on fire

12/8.

having seen PoW and Repulse sneaking away to the SE yesterday I pUt all my Nells on naval attack. Right enough they turn up at Kuching, nice and shiny expecting to spank the landing forces. Oops:
Allied Ships
BB Prince of Wales, Torpedo hits 1
BC Repulse, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage

I thought, "is that it?" then:
Allied Ships
BB Prince of Wales, Torpedo hits 6, on fire, heavy damage

The suddenly Repulse shows up as sunk.

The second attack on Pearl fizzled. Oh well, can't have everything.

Baker has fallen, hopefully putting a kink in his supply route to Oz.

Mys strategy is to take Malaya and the Phillipines, then the DEI and Burma. At the same time I shall be pushing south and east from Rabual and Kwajalein to sever the US/Oz tie. This will force him to fight early or concede the link thus slowing down his operations later in the war.

First the bad news - the oil at Brunei is completely stuffed, (249) x 51. Bugger. I just hope Palembang stays upright.

Good news, Honky Fidd fell thus realeasing 38th Div for operations elsewehere both earlier and more unscathed than expected. Plus the RN forgot to sail thus we got 3 x DDs for free.
Kuantan fell, now Malaya is in danger of being cut in half unless he's quick. Reinforcements were moving down from Khota Baru but they didn't make it in time. Shame.
Kuching also fell, thus giving us that nice little base there.

Alor Star was conceded to Japan so it looks like he's pulling out of northern Malaya. Fine by me. Six allied ground units headed to Kuantan, 3 from the north and 3 rom the west. Good, now they'll have to come and fight on my own ground, well supplied and minimally fatigued troops.

KB heading serenely westwards. Mavis units moved to Kuching, Amboina and Baker to throw out our search screens far and wide.

China. I'm not a big fan of the land death star but I intend to roll up NE China and Changsha then see what he doea fter that. If he decides to try and come for me we'll take them on.

edited for not paying attention to the correct game date.

Early war, do you think it is better for the Jap. player to be aggressive in China, or instead to just "hold the line " . That is to use the troops elsewhwere in order to make greater progress faster, then come back to deal with the chinese in late '42 for example.

I think there are certain places you have to take. Changsha for instance, this clears the north-south rail line, then those 2 pesky cities to the SW of there. That removes the threat to Canton and Hong Kong and deprives the allies of level 4 airbases in range of the Japanese homeland.

12/11.

looks like Sir Robin is in charge in Malaya, even the Victoria Point base force is running away.

In the Philippines it looks like Clark is the place to be with a reported 19 allied ground units there.

A quiet day, nothing major.

That strange hiatus in operations that occurs after the first few turns is over and we're off to the races.

In the Philippines the allies have holed up in Manilla, not even a token defence of Clark. Fine by me, now we jsut take that single CD unit in Bataan and then we can bombard Manilla with big guns instead of the crappy Japanese artillery.

Meanwhile in Malaya the allies are running away faster than I can advance. Maybe they stole some of our bikes? Here we are in Southern Malaya and it's not even Christmas Eve yet. Tomorrow we start bombing Singers to stop him building up his forts.
