Thanks Canoerebel.... I'll keep this excellent treatise on JFB morale maintenance up my sleeve for my first PBEM. [:D]
Kido Butai, although powerful, was a raiding force, and this is exactly how the Japanese understood its usage. 'Shattered Sword'
RE: Surviving the first 6 months as the Allies (Long)
The allies can really turn Singapore into a fortress and frustrate the japanese to no end if they go all out on it and the japanese player does not throw the kitchen sink. Air superiority is key and heavy bombers + AVG, with some skillful P40B reinforcement and supply management, such as downgrading west coast P40B's and so on, you can achieve it for quite some time. Unless the japanese player, ofcourse, brings in the full KB. The B-17's from west coast and philippines really help in keeping the japanese airfields in malaya surpressed as well. You usually get them in singapore just as those airfields come online.
The longer you keep singapore, the longer you keep india safe. And losing India is the worst thing that can realistically happen to an allied player, aside from losing PH ofcourse.

I don't think this would work against a human. One visit by Jap BBs and the base is shut down

Singapore, Oahu and Manila are perhaps the only coastal airfields that might survive such a naval bombardment, due to the strength of their coast artillery - as long as they have enough supplies.

I have run tests and (even actual PBEM turns) with BBs bombarding Singapore and Oahu. The CD guns there are paper tigers in the game.
I am not saying that this is right, just that this is the way it is in the game.

The jerk ran over my foot while turning left on a "pedestrian walk" sign. Kept on going. I caught him at the lights and cuffed the text messaging dick for good measure. Of course, the pain did not start for an hour and regrettably I figured no real harm done and failed to get his particulars, thinking a good cuff was enough. Thankfully, I've only sprained the ankle.
They really need to crack down on this cell phone/text messaging while driving crap.

RUPD, the only time my opponent tried to bombard singapore he lost a CA, had several others damaged and caused almost no damage. Also check the first team take two AAR for another example where the CD guns wreak havoc.
I agree tho, they should be more lethal

1) Avoid losing any carriers
2) Combine carriers into this type of fleet
Allied Carrier Force ~ 9/42
F4F SBD TBF
CV Lexington 60/18/15
CV Saratoga 60/18/15
CV Yorktown 60/18/15
CV Enterprise 60/18/15
CV Hornet 60/18/15
CV Wasp 30/30/12
BB North Carolina
BB South Dakota
BB Washington
CLAA San Juan
CLAA Atlanta
CLAA Juneau
CLAA San Diego
12 x Benson Class Destroyers (8 ASW)
Somewhat unassailable by surface units, submarines, or aircraft
F4F --> Shoot down any strike planes
SBD --> Sink any Carriers
TBF --> Sink any battleships

I see a couple of problems with this. There are far too many aircraft in the TF, so you will be affected by the air strike coordination rule. Another problem is that with this many capital ships in the TF, signals intel is likely to make it easier to track.
A question that I have is how are you getting airgroups with 60 F4F on the carriers at this time of the war?

I think he does that by putting the 24 plane marine squadrons on them, in addition to the 36 plane VF squadrons.
Personally I'd divide this TF atleast into three separate TF's, provided I could find escorts. It would probably require most of the USN surface ships, but it's a good use.

As the Jap, I would LOVE to see that allied carrier force!! I'd lose a pair of CVLs sinking them.
RE: Surviving the first 6 months as the Allies (Long)
Yep, not enough SBDs. I would maybe put a couple of 24 plane marine sqd's onboard at the expense of the torpedo a/c. Putting an extra sqd onboard each CV is gamey IMO.

yep, I go with Miller here, putting an extra Marine squadron on each CV is too much... one or two, ok, but not on every one. 3 Marine squadrons in this case would be the absolute maximum IMO.

RE: Surviving the first 6 months as the Allies (Long)
Greetings,
The 24 planes squadrons of F4F are placed on each CV.
A CAP of 300+ wildcats is virtually impennetrable,
provided that the carriers are able to remain in one hex.
With separates task forces, the Movenment co-ordination
penalty will be applied provided (when ships move more than
2 hexes in one phase) which is generally case during the
carrier reaction phase. If the USN carrier force is united,
then any threats can be absorbed. If necessary, even 10
marine squadrons can be placed on the CVs creating a 480
Wildcat CAP (at 90%).
The KB airstrikes can be attrited during the first day and
if necesssary, the fully replenished dauntless squadrons can be
flown from nearby land bases for day 2 (pulverizing the helpless
KB flight decks).
