Crimean Shield 1941-1942

Post by Grymme »

Upploaded a small scenario to the scenariobank. Crimean Shield 1941-42. The scenario should be more or less finished for approval.

Here is the briefing.

The scenario depicts the operations on Crimea in the fall/winter of 1941 and the spring/summer of 1942.

The scenario begins in september 1941 and ends after 20 turns.

Sevastopol, Kerch and Simferopol are each worth 5 VP. German army HQ is worth 1 VP. If the germans can hold all for locations before the end of 20 turns they win. Otherwise USSR wins.

Research is disabled. Naval units are not buildable.

HQ power is changed to 2 hexes.

Cost for creating new units & HQ changed to 9999. AI is disabled from creating new units.

Naval movement is doubled. Air movement is increased with 25 %.

Romanians fight with 90 % efficiency. The SS division Grossdeutchland fight with 120% efficiency.

Russians have some fortress artillery that works like normal artillery but is imovable. Germany have some siege train artillery (described below).

Reinforcements

T 3 - 1 russian infantry division in Kerch
T 4 - Germany recieves an engineer division.
T 5 - 3rd Romanian AKs for Germany
T 6 - 2nd Guard Army in Caucasus
T 8 - 1 russian infantry division in Kerch
T 9 - Hvy rail artillery (Art III unit that moves by rail and have a three range artillery strike) for Germany
T 11 - 1 russian infantry division in Kerch.
T 10 - Grossdeutchland division for Germany.

Looks interesting, I'll give it a try. Small historical point. While it was elite and might warrant the extra efficiency, Grossdeutchland was a Wehrmacht unit.

Renamed the "people" in Grossdeutchland to Elite Heer or something like that. Also made the unit colour a little less black. Upploaded.

Thanks mehring.

I've seen this mistake made in boardgames as well. Usually wrongly depicted by white on black counter graphics.

Sounds very interesting

Just read a magazine on Sevastapol, how the Soviets defended and the Germans managed to win.

The Germans did have quite a large amount of real big guns.
Karl, Odin and Thor were there too. (60cm Mortars)

But couldn't find any info of Groß Deutschland being there. Read my book Gott,Ehre,Vaterland Großdeutschland on the Eastfront.

GD fought in july Minsk, August Jelnja, September direction Kiev. Winter formed hedgehog positions near Orel.

Not meant as critic, but you know how some players react when things are not so accurate. But then again I might be wrong.

IIRC from reading "In Deadly Combat" there were some Russian Marines there too. I hope I'm not mixing that up.

Yes there were Russian Marines present, because Sevastopol was a major Russian harbor.
And the Germans did have an impressive amount of heavy artillery, but so did the Russians... hmm if I'm correct weren't they named GorkyI and GorkyII?
I don't know if GD was present there at the time, but it's still cool to have a counter with GD on it.

Had fun playing it through from the Russian side yesterday. I had it on the basic settings, so managed to beat the Germans badly. But it was still fun, falling back, counter attacking, etc. A very nice little scenario in which the AI turn is FAST!!  What a huge relief that is!

Please keep up the good work making these small scenarios - just what the doctor ordered!!

As several people have pointed out it seems divizion Grossdeutchland did not fight in the Crimean campaign. I should say, somewhat to my defense, that i was mostly going by the OOB of the boardgame Crimean Shield, which features a unit that is described as Gros (i think). But i checked it and of course they never fought there.

According to the boardgame 2nd Guard army fought on Crimea. It could be later than 1942 though.

Isnt there a marine infantry division in the south?

I am not sure i have the strength to update the OOB. If someone want to revamp the scenairo OOB themselves and call it updated Crimean shield or something they are very welcome to write themselves in as second scenariodesigner. It would probably take a little more work than just renaming one unit though.

Even more grateful i would be if someone could program the German AI so that he doesnt combine each HQ into a superHQ at the start of each T1.

Worth looking at in detail.

Changed the Grossdeutchland division to the Liebstandarthe Adolf Hitler division. Also changed the special people to SS and made them black again.

Flagged the scenario ready for approval.

Very nice - I had fun playing this. I enjoy this size scenario - and this is nice one! Anyone looking for a relatively quick easy to get into gmae just try this scenario on for size!

I'v moved this over to the approved list.

Thanks!
