Game stopping error.

Post by mgarrett »

Downloaded yesterday, installed, then installed update (Build 2008.044), when playing GUIK/4.0 Convoy, Medium Opposed NATO Transit, I get the following error (this error shows up in the Visual Studio 2008 Debugger):

An unhandled win32 exception occurred in Winharp32.exe [3548].

Unhandled exception at 0x0043a25b in Winharp32.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000e.

This is on a an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ machine, 2 gigs ram, XP Pro (service pack 3).

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have a hunch how to fix it (by sending you a newer winharp32.exe...). Anyway, you can help by zipping and sending a saved games from just before the crash to hc3@harpgamer.com and we'll take a look. Please include instructions on how to reproduce the crash if any steps are needed.

Thanks!

PS, try some newer scenarios guys, you aren't getting half of what HCE can do by playing original GIUK (hint, go WestPac or download user created scenarios for EC2003 at http://www.hargamer.com).

Twice in about a week, we may have to get the patch out sooner than we expected.

Same problem as: fb.asp?m=1939993

I'm having the same sort of problem, with HCE stopping working and going to straight windows error reporting. Edit a scenario in GIUK 2003, run the scenario fine but it will then fail at different points sometimes you can get around the failure if the game action follows a different path but mostly you have to start again.
Tried checking the scenario to fault find obvious errors/conflicts. First noticed when using my laptop and thought it was a hardware issue using Vista and borderline RAM and processor so transferred to my desktop which has better specs. Also checked if it was due to modified data base but does not appear to be the case. Does not appear to happen in other scenarios written for west pac etc.

CMH, please zip up and send a saved game with instructions to reproduce the crash to hc3@harpgamer.com and we'll have a look and verify the problem. Thank you and sorry for the trouble.

Well,

I've tried a couple of formats and the mail user at work won't accept them. So far the same fault seems to appear on all the 2003 battle sets and also Western Pacific. Occurs more often on edited scenarios and as I like to build them large it's a bit of a puzzler. Tried a test on the south american battleset with relatively small forces and no occurence(you can almost guarantee failure with one to two hours)
To be honest I dislike going back to the original battlesets as I'd played them to death on amiga then Win 95. Next test is to revert to 24 build and test on home pc as I hadn't had the game for long before build 44 came out.
So here's the fault summary hope this is of some help

The lead programmer has asked you to send your file to:
mailto:hc3@harpgamer.com

You can also zip it up and post it to this sub-forum. It is always easier to help diagnose a problem if the file is on hand.

Yep, I'm guessing you are just missing the "Zip" part. Let's expedite the process and just have you (CMH) send an e-mail to hc3@harpgamer.com so that we can get you a patched exe file.

Downloaded the new Win32 exe file and no change to the crashes, I'll have to run over a period to see if the interval has reduced but outlook so far is not good.

See post #5, what good is a reduced interval if you still have the crash kind of mentality pervades for me.  So if you can, invest in crafting the reproduceable crash (i.e. tons of saving so that you can go back to pre-crash and keep pounding away to isolate it).

Has this problem ever been resolved? I am having the same problem playing GIUK 6.0 under Vista.

Yes, if it really is the same problem. Please zip and send your save to HC3@harpgamer.com and we'll have a look.

Two ways:
1. Send me a saved game (sysop@tgp.net) just before crash occurs and I'll verify it and send a patched GE.

2. Grab the current beta from http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2049 and use that. You can grab just the 2009.020 GE there if you want. It has been quite stable and makes a host of other improvements as well.

TonyE,
Thx for the reply. I'll go over to Harpgamer and give that a try.
