Gaining control of minor

Post by NeverMan »

I know this has been asked before but how is PP handled when gaining control of minor.

For example, I am playing TU:

I DOW a nation: -1PP
I ally with a nation: +1PP
I ally with a nation: +1PP
I gain control of minor: +1PP
I gain control of minor: +1PP

My total PP went up 2. Seems a little odd to me.

I compared this to AU's and it seems that their PP is not working like this, it calculates everything. Odd.

I will update if I am wrong, I will have someone check my findings.

DOW a nation is 4 PPs,
DOW a minor is 1 PP per district.
So math looks odd yes, unless its a multidistrict minor you DOW'ed.

Sorry, it should be DOW a minor, -1PP, per the log. I check the log pretty thoroughly and this is the math it spat back at me.

Marshall,

This is a bug and it's a pretty big one, IMO. Of course, IMO, they ALL are pretty big bugs. I will post a save game later to this thread.

I checked it out and it looks like calling a minor ally is not giving the +1pp that it should. I cannot confirm that this happened but did study the code a bit. I will add this in...

Sounds correct, as it is, you dont get pp for calling "minor-allies".
Maybe this was removed dont remember, if so the "logging needs to be fixed".

So you don't get control for gaining a minor?? If not, this needs to be fixed.

IF SO, why is AU's PP count just fine, including getting the PP for gaining control of minors, this doesn't make sense.

You get pp for minor witch you get control of when others DOW that minor.
You dont get pps as far as i remember when someone DOW's you, and you gain control of "minor-allies".

I could be wrong, think this was discussed in another thread several months ago.

OK, I'm not really understanding the difference.

1. I gained control of Portugal for which I got no PP for when SP DOW'd it.
2. I gained control of Algeria for which I got no PP for when GB DOW'd it. GB did DOW me the same turn.

I am not at war with SP in any capacity so why should I not get PP for that?

Actually using this info in your math example from log.
You DOW a minor -1 PP
You gain control of Portugal for Spain DOW'ing it +1 PP
You Ally with 1 major power +1 PP
You Ally with 1 major power +1 PP
/I think You do not gain +1 PP for getting control of Algeria as call minor-ally on GB DOWing you (this used to be so, and is possible why log shows it, but was changed).
Total : +2 PP's change for you,
so math seems right but log bugged

Well, you should be getting 1pp for gaining control of a minor (Whether by a minor ally call or you simply winning control of the minor through a die roll). A minor call is done when YOU issue a DOW on another nation. At that point your minor ally is converted to a freetstate for you then you receive the pp for the freestate. It needs to happen this way or else there would be a penalty for having minor allies. You could simply keep them at influenced and get a pp for control. Make sense?

But i do remember reading some thread, EIH rule you didnt gain or something like that. And you wrote would look into it.
So my guess was that it was changed :)

So then there is a bug in the way PP is being calculated in this scenario? I posted the save game so you should be able to check it.

More than the fix, I'd like to know so the host can go ahead and correct my PP total, as the longer we "talk" about this the longer I don't have my possibly deserved PP.

EiH messed things up a bit, but it doesn't make sense that you get to call your (minor) ally when YOU declare war. It should happen only when someone declares war on you. Note that this can occur if your enemy calls its allies, thus allowing you to call yours (including minors).

Personally, I would like to see the whole minor influence/ally stuff scrapped. It wasn't play-tested very well.
