The Marshalls:

Kwaj is too well defended to take and the mines keep beating up my bombardment fleets. The CD gun prevent clearing the mines. I will use it as a live fire training range and bypass it.

Shortlands captured

Post by RUPD3658 »

Cleared out the defenders in 1 turn. Looks like it was mostly base forces and Eng units.

The Jap invasion force at Wake looks like it has reloaded and is headed home.

RE: Shortlands captured

Post by RUPD3658 »

CD guns at Wake took out a few overzealus mine sweepers and my new PB4Ys made an appearance sinking at PC.

Mop up at Trim and Bulla is going slower than expected.

More landings are planned in the near future in the NG area.

RE: Shortlands captured

Post by RUPD3658 »

Still trying to clear out Trim. Most of my troops are 90+ exp now so I guess I should be happy about the protracted battle.

I sent 5 DDs to Entiwetok to try to catch the barges evacing units from Kwaj. They turned back after being attacked by Bettys but fortunetly none were hit.

Kendari is down to less than 50 resources. Another few raids and the starving of the base can begin.

Russia activated!

Post by RUPD3658 »

As per our house rules Gordon has activated Russia 30 prior to an invasion. On Mrach 1 the fun begins. All I can hope to do is go for a stalemate and hope to draw forces away from other fronts. Hopefully the DEI and PI will be left unguarded and I can do some quick land grabs. The prospect of helping Russia is slim.

RE: Russia activated!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Laid lots of mines at Kwaj. Now I will wait and see if the barges and subs that evacuating the troops from there hit any.

The weather has cleared so massive airstrikes are planned for next turn at Trim. The pending invasion of Russia has forced me to excellerate all invasion time tables to take advantage of the second front. I am hoping to get 3-6 months out of Russia so I need to grab as much as possible in the shortest time to make Russia's sacrifice worth it.

I am hoping to seek a nuke strike against the airfield that the training ttacks against Chungking are coming from about a week before the start of the Russia operation. This could screw with jap air supremecy. [;)]

RE: Russia activated!

Post by RUPD3658 »

None of the strikes flew against Trim and thunderstorms have moved back in. Hopefully I can continue to build momentum on the ground. I need them cleared out soon so I can use the LCUs elsewhere.

Cleared out Bulla and Kiriwana. Gili Gili will be the next target.

RE: Russia activated!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Trim is starting to fall. 1-2 more attacks should take out the last 50K defenders then I will have to come up with a plan for what to do with the now very experienced LCUs.

Landing at Gili Gili was a day late so the attack will not be next turn.

In the DEI 37 freaking A-20s failed to hit a single Jap ship. As a result I have a feeling Ambonia will get bombarded next turn. I didn't move the transports out partailly becuase I was rushed doing the turn before work and partially because the base needs the supplies.

RE: Russia activated!

Post by RUPD3658 »

As expected Ambonia got slammed. I lost 35 AC on the ground but at least the transports had the good sense to run away. The A-20s deserved to get bombarded after their poor performace last turn.

Trim is about to fall. I have ordered a final shock attack to finish them off. I don't think you get as many VPs if the units are destroyed by attrition.

PM landing should be next turn. I also have an air drop planned for the base next to Lae.

Gili Gili attack will be next turn too. The air attack stopped the unloading process for some reason.

100,000 Japs killed at Trimcomalee!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Trim was finally cleared out with a total loss of about 100K Jap troops. This was their Stalingrad on the Indian Ocean. I scored a total of around 1000 VP for their destruction. I am sure some fragments got out but it should take a long time to rebuild them.

Gili Gili was captured but not without incident. My CV task force which was 1 hex away failed to provide fighter cover and a transport got hit.

PM landing also went screwy. Bombardment Tf was supposed to arrive at the same time as the transports and CVEs but showed up early instead. As a result they had no air cover and 2 BBs were damaged by Nells. In addition I lost 2 DDs to coastal guns. I had an MSW spend a few days here to test for mines and CD guns and since none shot at it I figured it was safe to have the DDs bombard. Not a good move. Four more were heavily damaged but will survive.

Salamaua held despite being bombarded, bombed, and attacked by 2 Marine para units.

In Malaya my heavies destroyed about 35 Jap transports and recon planes on the ground. I need to make it look like I am laying the ground work for an offensive here to hide my true plans.

RE: 100,000 Japs killed at Trimcomalee!

Post by RUPD3658 »

PM landings were a mess. Recons showed no mines but alas, there was a mine field. The CD guns are wrecking my transports. Hopefully the base is short on supply after months of bombing and will fall quickly so I can use to port to save some ships. An attack has been ordered for next turn.

Gastma suddely had troops that were not discovered after 10+ recons. I have a feeling that Gordon in air transporting troops into the area.

Rangoon got hit hard and will get even harder next turn.

Bloody day

Post by RUPD3658 »

A very bloody day for the Allies. Rangoon raids did no coordinate and went in as 3 seperate strikes. In the end both sides lost about 125 AC each. I guess I should be happy since I am still killing pilots and drawing AC away that could be used in the Russian invasion. I don't think Gordon realizes what he is in for in Russia. Russian troops and AC may not be that good but there are a lot of them. The 1,000 fighters alone will cause him some grief is he does not committ his entire air force to the invasion and if he does he will have to weaken his defenses elsewhere.

In the DEI Ambonia has become untennable and I have withdrawn the undamaged AC to Kai. Another bombardment is expected this turn. I have move 20 PT boats into the area so I hope to make it costly for the Japs. It looks like this front will be a stalemate until Kai Island can support heavy bombers.

The PM assault failed. PM must have been drawing supplies from Buna and Lai since the defense was much stronger than expected. I thought after 200+ supply hits over the last 3 months that the troops would be starving. I guess this Intel was as bad was the intel that said there was no minefield.

RE: Bloody day

Post by RUPD3658 »

As expected Ambonia got a visit from the bombardment fleet. The PTs did little more than throw off their aim. At least the Kumano hit a mine[;)]

I have spotted 4 CVs and a CVL just north east of Ambonia so I have pulled all my ships out of the area. I don't know if this is just a raid or if the CVs are covering for a counter landing. I have sent all available subs to the area and am hoping for a lucky hit.

I have close to 100 B-17/24 at Lautem and about 60 meduim bomberes at Kai so if the CVs pass Ambonia I could inflict some damage.

PM got pounded again and another 22 supply hits were scored. Gordon's score dropped from last turn despite my air losses so somehwere (I am guessing PM) is now low on supplies. Hopefully I can still take the base without having to bring in more troops.

RE: Bloody day

Post by RUPD3658 »

Another quiet day. I am moving AC towards North Oz for when Kai expands it's AF. This will be the next axis of advance.

Still waiting to attack PM. I really don't want another invasion fleet to have to suffer through the CD guns so I am going to do all I can to capture the base with the troops I already have ashore. Bombardments should weaken the defenders soon.

RE: Bloody day

Post by RUPD3658 »

Poor perfomance by my CV air crews toady. I have set back 1 hex from PM to stay out of Zero range but still offer cover for the ships at PM. This resulted in losing 17 Wildcats for only 4 Zeros. I am going to send the whole CV force into PM and hope to do better.

Airstrikes have been ordered all over the map for next turn as well as an attack at PM. I have to get things moving to take advantage of the Russia invasion drawing forces away from the front.
