Can't get network to work on my computer

Still can't have the server on my computer. With one of my friends it actually worked!! He hosted up. The thing is...he has mobile internet...so his external IP is the same as his internal.

Which is not the case for me. Is that the problem I guess?

I tried a lot of things...port forwarding etcetera even turning of the firewall.

I have the latest version of the game (1.21) and forwarding port 42121. I even tried to run a DMZ host....to resemble my friends connection even though I am not completely sure I got that to work...

In the mean time I learnt a lot about networking also

I have windows XP and yes I have TCP/IP on the LAN card....otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect to the internet right....

I have a normal xDSL ISP. One modem....one computer connected to it. No router (though the modem kind of functions as a router as well).

Never tested the game in NAT environment though it should work if you set up a virtual server with your router.
