System damage and war efficiancy

Post by Historiker »

When should one put the ships back into harbour for repairs?
How long will a heavy surface combat ship like a BB fight efficiantly, how much sysdamage can CVs take before getting sitting ducks?

I make it a rule not to go over 10-system damage, when they get to 10 it’s off to a large port, and if it’s a capital ship a large port with a yard. A Carrier with say 11-system damage gets into a strike-fight, that 11 points could be the difference between life and death.

The game reduces speed based on systems damage. In reality, speed was a non-linear function of available horsepower. American cruisers continued in operations down to about 25 knots, which was about half power. So if you want to use USN standards, we're talking about a drydock availability at somewhere between 25 and 50 systems damage.

Thank you, but what does the game engine say? When will my BBs be sitting ducks, when will my CVs be useless despite their aircraft?

If you use 25 systems damage as your threshold, you'll probably be OK. You'll still be able to sprint when you need to.

There is a hard cutoff for CV damage where it can't conduct flight operations if the damage exceeds it.  It's mentioned somewhere in the manual, but I don't have it handy to check.

At 50% system damage a carrier can no longer launch aircraft, IIRC. This is why you don't want to go into a fight with much accumulated damage. I definitely hold the line at 15 sys damage - any more than that and my carriers head to a yard.

O have a rule about 10sys damage.
Carrier ops are unpossible when system+flood damage (or all damages) combined are greater than 50.

Doesn't detection go up after about Sys 10 also?

If any damage (fire, sys, flood) is above 15, take her to a port. Generally speaking for example my ASW DD's and MSW's take one hit its off to a port and HOPE they make it there,  however for capitol ship same thing, 1bomb/torp hit its off to the repair docks.

I made that mistake twice today letting a CV with 1 bomb hit continue about its way with 20ish Sys damage, both were sunk in following turn.

It shouldn't.
