Calcutta/Dacca

Post by jeffk3510 »

Its roughtly Dec 12 41' in my stock campaign game.... I have been pulling out fragments on the air HQs around Malaya and setting their future destination in Dacca, and building that up to max airfield to eventually bomb the hell outa the Japs when I get 4E's over there asap....

Is this something most guys do, or am I waisting my time. From Dacca, Calcutta even can be a 7 I think, and one more city in there can all be 7 at least airfields....so I can hit a HUGE majority of Jap bases from there..... just curious if I am on the right track or waisting resources....

Thanks.

As long as you can hold it it is the logical base for Allied 4EB to strike from...

Well... it is stock, and I've heard Japan doesn't go for India too hard in stock... HOWEVER I am digging in a pouring troops in so they have to cross that river and hit me, and the sea approach is covered for the most part....

One good thing about building Dacca up is that it can't be hit by naval bombardment. If you're playing the AI, you have no worries about it, Calcutta or Chandphur being invaded - unless you completely botch the campaign in Burma!

Keep in mind that the weather is terrible in India/Burma and until your pilots get some experience they're not going to fly a lot of missions. Remember to recon as well.

After Japan takes Singapore and DEI they have more than enough troops to invade India. You can read this AAR for an example of how hard it is to hold India.

Are you talking about the AI? If so, no, it doesn't... human players can (and will) eat India up given half a chance.

AI never goes for India /Oz / or anything else beyond their "historical" limits really.

Speaking of, the AI will not go for anything period outside the historical capture.
So you won't have to worry about the AI capturing pearl harbor behind your back in '43.

Interesting... looks like I might start a small fortress on Gaudalcanal and Port Morseby then...

Against the AI you can hold Timor fairly easily and if you put some effort into it you can hold Java.

I'm about two weeks into the Grand Campaign and have been pulling entire US and Dutch base forces and garrisons out and sending them either to Timor or Balikpapan.  I've already fought off an invasion of Macassar and am holding onto Brunei and pulling back into Bataan.  The Siam peninsula is lost except for the bases around Singapore, but the AI keeps funnelling troops into the area while the oil producing regions stay in my hands.

Should I continue pulling troops out of the remaining Dutch bases or should I make the AI fight for each one, knowing I'm sacrificing the troops?  I tried that on the Siam peninsula and it didn't make much of a dent in the Japanese juggernaut.  The KB is back in home waters refitting from its PH strike, which didn't sink anything but beat up every BB in the harbor.  I've lost a few RN ships but my RN and Dutch subs are very useful in sinking troop transports, and I've mined some of the more obvious ports with those Dutch ML's.
