mulberry's treated as amphibious assaults?

Post by gwgardner »

Anyone tried using a mulberry? Do they have to run the gauntlet of enemy naval forces, as an amphibious assault craft does? Or do they get automatically placed, as with transporting a unit?

I use them quite often. They are great as supply point if you can land on foreign soil but cannot conquer a city soon.

You create them by clicking on a land area already controlled by you - so you have to get there first and create one free controlled area by moving a space on foreign territory. Then you can create a mulberry port in the free spot. But be careful. They are vulnerable and can be attacked by the enemy. They are easily destroyed and then a complete loss (300 PP IIRC).

I try to land sufficient forces to completely surround and shield the mulberry field from attack before building them. Against overwhelming odds it won't work of course.

They are not subject to landing losses.

Is a mulberry a port for transport purposes, or only for supply?

IIRC only for supply and not transport. Until you have a real port, you still have to land new units amphibiously despite having the mulberry. It just keeps units alive if they fail to conquer a supply point in the first move after landing.

(Waiting to see this in your AAR and hope it is not used for one of Comrade Stalin's forces that are notorious for withholding any exciting news).

Comrade Stalin merely wants to have more information. He of course has no plans to expand the Soviet navy.
