Another BUG!!

Post by NeverMan »

I have not posted this to Mantis and haven't checked if it's there. I don't get paid for this so whatever. Here it is:

Looks like there is a bug. I have 2 Guard factors available in my Reinf Phase. I have the Grenadier II corps 1 spot away from a depot that is in my country that is part of a valid supply chain, YET, I cannot add the guard factors to this corps.

The thing to note is that the corps was loaned to Prussia the previous phase but is back in my control. I want to add the factors and then loan the corps back to Prussia. It seems as though I'm going to lose my guard factors.

I have attached the save game.

EDIT: I have re-checked and this is INDEED a bug!!

Hi Neverman:

I was able to reinforce your guard by moving the Guard unit away from besiege mode (move out of city button). When a corps is just in the area (not besieging) one can reinforce it but one can not reinforce besieging corps.

After reinforcement, one can then move the corps back into besiege mode.

Hope this helps.

Ok, maybe I am misinterpreting the rules because I don't see where it states that you can't reinforce a corps with factors if it is besieging, only if it is besieged. Anyone?

It's a game interface "bug", I would say.

In addition to what you said, Mardonius, I've noted that you can't reinforce into a corps that's NOT besieging, if it is placed into the city. However, you can sometimes reinforce in if the city holds more factors than would be available in the corps, were it full (I think). So, the French II corps (23 total factors possible) could only reinforce if inside Paris (which holds 25 factors). In any 1-4 spire city, it will be unable to reinforce (until it switches to the field.

I don't think this is the same as what you noted, though. It may very well be that there are TWO problems, the one you outlined and the one I did.

City size does come into play when trying to reinforce a Corps, or move a Corps into a City.

You cannot place factors into a besieged Corps/City, but I am not aware of of that restriction being applied to sieging corps either.  I suspect that could be an interface mechanic.

If you move the Grenadier Corps out, you can reinforce, but then you cannot move it back into the siege again, but you might be able to in your movement phase...

Interesting situation...

Not so much interesting as it is a bug.

The bottom line is that you should be able to do this and you can't. That's a bug.

Well, I'm able to recreate the situation in one of my games, and can move the corps back into the siege in the movement phase.

I suspect a programming parameter isn't allowing the factor to  be placed in a besieging corps, and IMO taking the corps out of the stack and putting it back in isn't to onerous, in most cases theres very little downside.  Although I can think of a couple...

Anyways, if its on Mantis Marshall will take a look at it...

I've encountered this many, many times and I would classify it as an interface bug. If you're the attacker in a siege and you're in a valid supply chain, you should be able to reinforce your corps regardless of whether you are actively besieging a city or just in the field outside the city. That the workaround is to select the unit, click the 'Besiege City' button, reinforce the unit and then re-besiege the city speaks to the nature of this interface bug. It would be nice to have this issue resolved (though I don't think its high priority, IMO).

Cheers,

I was NOT able to move the corps back with the rest of the stack. Not sure why, think it has to do with the country being Prussian owned. The minor is PR owned and has a FR garrison and is being besieged. I couldn't move the corps back with the stack (that also has AU corps in it).

The exact message was: "Move Blocked!"

Yea, I can see this. You can move it out to reinforce BUT not back in. It should be able to be reinforced while besieging the city. I'll add this to Mantis and fix her up!

Marshall, I had what I think is exactly the same problem in a bug report submitted from the CleverDevils2 game. It was about six months ago, I think. I loaned a corps to Austria. Austria moved it to the field and gave me control back, so I could reinforce it. I was not allowed to merge it in with the Austrians (who were besieging a city). Both of us were at war at the time.

However, I'm not sure how to look this up on Mantis.

Another issue that should be resolved is reinforcing loaned corps. Under EiA, this was still possible, so long as the unit connected to a valid supply chain owned by the loaning power (e.g. Austrian corps loaned to Prussia, but sitting on or 1 area away from an Austrian depot). From the sounds of things, this is not possible in this current iteration of EIANW, correct Marshall?

Cheers,
