A local rebellion in Cam Ranh Bay (on the coast) is brutally put down by the US garrison there. (Used an actioncard to start a rebellion there to test if the US have been garrissoning the cities enough).

US turn 21:
Nothing new in the North just everybody regrouping and preparing for the next rounds of fighting so no picture given. In the Center we are very slowly and carefully pounding Charly from the air and from artillery and following up. US is still wondering what the heck the commies are digging all these tunnels for as we prefer to use transports by road and air.
As the US commander contemplates having to fight in the jungle much longer he remembers how often he asked for some Agent Orange "special card" in Washington but having been denied by the politicians back there who do not understand Jungle warfare...

US turn 21:
In the South the North Vietnamese horde has overrun our lines and encircled the peaceful farming village of Rash Gia.
This was not intended. However the defenders have some machine guns, are very well entrenched (it was the perfect job for the GI and auxiliaries there: all movement forbidden for several months) and to boost morale even their beloved HQ moves close to cheerlead the defense. This cannot go wrong, can it?



And yes I did garrision each city in South Vietnam with at least 10 rifles and some machineguns after losing some cities early to rebellion. Keeps a lot of good men away from the front but then for the front I use mainly airpower anyway...

Overview - Round 22

-All in all i am barely hanging on. In the north the US havent moved except for an Korean division that is moving out into the highlands area.
-In Ban Me thuot province the enemy is standing at the gates of Khontum.
-In the Rash Gia province powerfull US units are moving towards Rash Gia. I only have one chance to rout the ARVN division defending the city.
- My naval forces are resupplying and will soon be able to go out and reaking havoc on the US supply lines.

Rash Gia province - Round 22

As the month begins my forces are poised to strike against Rash Gia. Elements of 4 different divisions together with Engineers, artillery and sappers storm the city. The well dug in ARVN forces have recieved orders to fight or die. Unfortunatly, as usual i am tempted to say, the lack of heavy artillery support together with the well trained, well fortified state of the enemy means that the assault fails. Losses on the FNL side amounts to some 30-40 % of the starting forces. Losses on the ARVN side are unknown. This would truly turn out to be a 1:10 ratio slaughter for the communist guerilla.

After the final assault the exhausted FNL units can hear actually here the artillery of the US relief forces struggling to get to Rash Gia. Atempting to avoid complete elimination the commanding FNL general orders units to evacuate through the delta with small smuggler vessels. A rearguard is sacrificed and sent up the US flank to hold up the enemy. Some heavy equipment is abandoned. All in all some 40 % of the participating forces manage to ecacuate through the use of small smuggler vessels.

US turn 22:
We now again stick to the masterplan: Wait in the North (not shown here), attack in the center and defend in the South.
In the South we hit the advancing enemy so much with aerial bombardment that they lack strength to storm Rash Gia (I think this would not have worked in most other circumstances though). We are not too unhappy that the enemy retreats however.
In the center we slowly advance. Before we storm Kontum we need to reorganize however (damn beaurocrats).

Overview - Round 23

LOL. Yeah. Beware putting statisticians in command in war.

- In Khe Sanh the 9th ROK infantry division had moved all out in the highland without any support. US airforces strike hard in the region and the proud DRVN fighters go up to fight them suffering severe losses but inflicting some also by the supporting Flak.
- Around Kontum my forces were beaten back out of their tunnel system.
- In the Mekong delta US forces hunted down the FNL guerillas sent out as bait to cover up my retreat.

NOTE. From the maps posted it might look sometimes like the game was very static. But that was not my feeling when playing the game. It was definetly a flowing game with offensives on both sides and some movement. But there was generally the three fronts that we are showing pictures from. There was also the DRVN fighting against the Lao government that i sometimes show pictures of. Also i am not so good at remembering all movements and recording them

US turn 23:
Nothing new in the North. Everything looks suspiciously calm. We move very slowly West but take care to examine every tree in this jungle to see if nobody is hiding below. From past experience we know the enemy can strike quickly everywhere and we are not yet ready for a new offensive.
We should not advance at all as we do not have decisive advantage here but with some defensive terrain available the temptation is too strong.

US turn 23:
The center looks like a fruit ripe for the taking. Enemy resistance is crumbling and with strong artillery and air support we advance another hex towards Kontum. Soon all this territory will be freed and US rice supply is secured for the time being ...

US turn 23 production:
After for a long time trying to build and defend supply by naval transport I finally decided it was not worth it and very much gave up on sea transport. From Guam I fly in large number of bombers and fighters and the rest of the war material production is outsourced to sweatshops in South Vietnam. If we have to defend Capitalism in South Vietnam we should also give them a demo how it works. Mainly I need tactical bombers anyway.

Overview - Round 24


Two notable strategic events occur this round. US gets their 3rd and last Strategic bombardment campaign.
I dont remember when the US played the strategic bombardment card. Maybe Lunaticus remembers.

Also the DRVN recieve a third depot with material that support the DRVN. Thats another 2K production for me. Also Vietnamization will set in the next round. This will remove all US depots from the south.

The US seem to have retreated on the Cambodian border.

Losses - Round 24

Here are the losses and kills so far.

Notice the high amount of machineguns on the US/RVN side (45) compared to rifles (405).

On my side i am not at all satisfied with my 12 fighter losses, half of which occured during foolish raids on Hue and Guang Tri.
