Any home-made scenarios yet?

Post by Yamamoto »

Does anyone have any scenarios they've made or modified with the editor yet? I made one where I added a bunch of carriers to each side ( 4 shokaku's and 4 Yorktowns + 4 CVEs) but it wasn't really that much fun after the initial excitement wore off.

On an unrelated note... I can't see these forums from my comuter at work. I can see the web page, and everything else except the titles of the messages ( which means I can't click on them to read the messages). DOes anyone know why this is? I know that computer at work has some problems with ActiveX components.

This may not sound like much of a mod but.........

To create a player vs AI game that keeps its interest beyond the first decisive CV vs CV battle, I took S 17 and removed the IJN Midway "big four" CV's (delay 9999) and left the USN untouched (I reintroduced Midway but made it into a clean "kill" by the USN). The game was played as historical/hard and I kept sub control for myself. The result was a game that kept its excitement all the way to early 43 (as the IJN) as sea control swung back and forth over a long period. Even if you smash the initial USN CV's by June 42, another batch will be along shortly to resume the contest. It means the IJN really has to husband its CV resources and time its offensives carefully. It also means that a major defeat could put you on the strategic defensive for most of the game.

On a side note, I tried using the editor to mod some IJN escort classes to reflect historical AA changes (I have yet to see any IJN upgrades occurring in UV) that began to occur after the loss at Midway. The mods worked fine until the first time I replenished the ship with ammo. At that point, some of the modded weapons were destroyed (as in combat damage). Has anyone else seen this? Since there have been few threads about modifying ships with the editor, I didn't think it was worth reporting.

Drongo,

:( I've seen this too, still testing to see if my latest mods work or if it happens again. I've also seen it happen to ships that hadn't fired a shot. Don't know why the editor allows us to edit the ship weapons and then they become damaged in the game. I think it has to do with what type of weapon you modify and system damage. I do know removing a 5"/38 gun mount on a DD for a hedgehog launcher has some strange results, lots of ammo for one. Unfortunately the editor is unsupported so unless this is an undocumented feature I doubt we'll ever know why. Maybe Rich Dionne could shed some light on this.

;) Well, I'll keep tinkering with the editor untill I figure it out or go crazy trying, which ever comes first.

I’ve created a scenario to help new comers who are not familiar with strategic warfare in the Pacific or who’s not quite used to playing a game of this magnitude. The scenario allows all ship, aircraft and troop dispositions to be available within the first fifty days of the scenario.

I also increased the base force values to allow for better use of airfields early in the game. Also increased ship allotment points for the game and increased supplies at all strategic bases.

This scenario allows for the better practice of deploying TF’s as well as building bases without having to spend allot of effort on supplies and constructing operational airfields. You still must deploy aircraft and support units from their demarcation bases, as well as build re-supply convoys with the added concern of enemy ship capabilities. Overall the scenario allows one get practice in ordering air strikes, supply convoys and invasion forces while at the same permitting more mistakes in tactics and strategy without discouraging a player early in the game. A loss of some capital ships early in the game will not have such a severe handicap.

I made one.

It has 5 bases. One at Rabaul, the other at Noumea.

The Japs have all their heavy carriers and a bunch of escort, but no land based air.

The Americans have 4 gigantic bases on New Caledonia with a total of . . . .

1,000 B-17s.

:D
Last time I checked, the forums were messed up. ;)

Hey guys. Reference some editor queries. I've been working on weapon and profile art accuracy issues for UV and WITP. What is happenning (if I understand what Rich D told me) was that the "refit" feature in campaigns is hard coded and will alter AA etc based on a date threshold, doubling number of guns for AA with each succeeding refit up to a max value. There is nothing that can be done at the moment as this has to be done by the big guys. Hopefully I'll be done soon for WITP so it does not require a rewrite. I also hope UV will eventually be adjusted. Lots of ships out there, pretty big job. Staring at the spreadsheets gives one a headache rather quickly. ;)

"refit"

Post by tanjman »

Ron,

:) This explains what I've been seeing and the rule of thumb that seems to be a work around (so far). Thanks

:D Rule of thumb (use at your own risk): Replace like for like; AA guns for AA guns, DP guns for DP Guns; i.e. 40mm AA for 1.1" AA, 5"/38 for 5"/25 etc. So far (40 days of game play) it seems to work.

:D BTW Ron, if you and Rich need more help, I've got some spare time on my hands, all you have to do is ask. :D

-I´m currently working in a modified hypotetical Coral Sea
-scenario where the Japanese deploy their main naval
-forces to attack Port Moresby. As the USN has deciphered
-the Japanese codes, they also deployed their foreces at
-South Pacific (It would be like a Midway battle near New
-Guinea). However, I would like to get some historical
-information:
1-This battle will happen in June 1942. It assumes there
was no Coral Sea Battle, so, it would be reasonable to
include Wasp and Saratoga in the USN forces? Where
those ships were in June/42?
2-It would be possible to get some US battleships? Maybe
transferred from the Atlantic fleet?

Saratoga & Wasp

Post by tanjman »

afenelon,

:) According to my source (Aircraft Carriers of the USN, by Stefan Terzibaschitsch ISBN 0-87021-001-7) its as follows;

USS Saratoga (CV-3): Jan 42 Torpedoed by IJN submarine, returned to west coast for repairs, no repair date. Used as an aircraft transport until July(?) 42.

USS Wasp (CV-7): March - May 42: With British Home Fleet, including transport of British fighters to Malta. Transfered to Pacific after loss of USS Yorktown (CV-5).

:) You might want to check the Naval Historical Center at: http://www.history.navy.mil/index.html

-Thank you. So it would be reasonable to place the Saratoga
-in my scenario. It will give 5 US fleet carriers against 5 IJN
-ones

Scenarios

Post by bhdhtx »

My dad, who is a WWII buff, made 3 scenarios for me to play and him thru PBEM> One is where the Jap used their main force to take New Guinea, the 2nd is where the Japs split their CV force in half and the last where the Japs sent all their main force to Midway leaving a cvl and others to take New Guinea. Very fun stuff. He gave me a list of what avail CV's I could send to South PAcific to go against the Japs on each scenario. Is cool, just kinda like playin WITP but this game bein a small portion of events that I sent my force to rebel with :-)

My first Scenario

Post by Long Lance »

I chose Yamato's prophecy to build a somehow 'semihistoric' scenario. I assumed that the boys on Lady Lex weren't playing with gasoline when she was on fire, so she could be rescued, and Yorktown wasn't hit by a Jap sub when returning from BoM.

I also assumed that in BoM Hiryu stopped fighting after three CVs were hit hard, the whole IJN was retiring and Akagi wasn't sunk by Jap destroyers, but towed to Japan. The lost IJN carrier AGs are rebuilt (including the Shoho's).
I changed ETAs in the following manner:

Hiryu 30 Days
Akagi 90 d
Lexington 30 d
Yorktown 90 d

Shoho's AGs 0 d/Truk
Soryu's AGs 25 d
Kaga's AGs 50 d

I also changed US CV-AGs with ETA >= 29 d from F3F to F4F,
TBD to TBF, every US-CV-Fighter-AG to have 36 planes (Wasp 30), the Jap Big-CV-Fighter-AG to 27, every A5M to A6M2.

I didn't really playtest it, but I think it sounds to be very balanced.

Just in case that somebody wants to have the scenario, how and were could I post it? Without having a homepage of my own and without sending individual Emails?
