OT: Vent your frustration here on SPAM

Post by GaryChildress »

OK. I'll forget the stupid lip plumpers.

However...For the life of me I still cannot understand the logic behind some advertisers. My cell phone is on the national "do not call list" yet I'm still getting some text messages from advertisers. These text messages are not free to me. They cost me on my cell phone plan. Who on earth is stupid enough to think that anyone would respond favorably to being billed for someone elses advertisement? Yeah. Like I'm going to buy something from some cheeseball who is breaking the law (and breaking all norms of good taste) by sending me text messages.

It's like this dufus Samke who is posting this spam on the forum. Is anyone that gullible that they would respond to his stupid ads for fake Nike shoes? Is Samke that stupid that he actually thinks he is enticing anyone with his garbage? I wouldn't trust a guy like Samke and his products any further than I can punch him in the face.

It just defies my comprehension. How stupid are ad spammers? They know they are annoying people and they won't go away. Do they really think persistence is the key to getting someone to buy their junk??? [:@][&:]

I mean I respect the fact that companies need to advertise and grow their business. That is to be expected. And most companies do it tastefully. But shoving low life garbage in someone's face in a way that will only piss them off makes about as much advertising sense as saying, "Hey I'm a slimeball and I want to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge."

Sorry for the rant. [:o]

Samke is a program, not a person, and it's part of a mass-marketing (spam) program most likely covering hundreds of millions of potential customers.

If only 1 out of every 10,000 potential customers buys something from these people, that's still enough to support a business plan, considering that their manufacturing and advertising costs are close to nothing.

They're annoying as all hell, but also the way of the future.

Well you're right, they really annoy the vast majority of us... but, they annoy the *vast* majority, so not everyone is annoyed by them. And apparently it still pays to annoy 99,999% of the sane human population, only to find those few dumb enough to fall for their evil tricks. I say, the world would be better off without them.

I hate animated ads put in text environment (i.e. internet pages). What will be next? Screaming newspapers?

Honestly I don't mind most web advertisements so much as long as they don't substantially interfere with my surfing and as long as they do their advertisements on the up and up. What irks me the most are the bottom dwellers preying on the stupid. They really ruin it for everyone.

Would they scream amusing insult in Brooklyn accents? You might be able to market that. Or celebrity voices! [:D]

I don't mind animated ads...they're easy to block.

I love Spam.  Great stuff.  Slice it up and pan fry it and make Spam sandwiches.  I don't understand all the anger.

Neither. You'll have to buy it one sample at a time for whatever your cell phone company charges for text messages. It's a special life time subscription to the spam of the week club which cannot be canceled at any time.

This is one reason I got rid of my cell phone and don't care to ever get one again.

Unfortunately it seems the way society is, spam is here to stay.  Any time governments try to crack down on this personal intrusion, it is immediately met with cries of violation to the freedom-of-speech.  Interesting, how it is the spammers who do the most tauting in this area.  What happened to the right of privacy?  I don't see these organization touting that line...

Me too, after all, they pay for the hosting. The problem is that the animated ones usually do substantially interfere with my surfing.

Seriously, you have a good point and I share your frustration with spam. And, apparently, there are enough suckers for them to make money to continue to spam.

Hehe...Brilliant.

These remind me of the catalogs that my wife keeps getting almost weekly from places like Fingerhut and others. She bought something somewhere and they must have sold her name to every junk peddler on the planet. The funny thing is that every cover says something like 'Last chance to order and you will receive no more catalogs unless you do'. Then they send more. What a waste of paper.

They must have sold her name to Layne Bryant ( a clothing store for plus sized girls) and she swears that it was me who signed her up. She's so tiny that nothing would fit her but funny nonetheless. Its a running joke 'round here.

The only things I get in the mail are bills. Lucky me.

1) Get yourself a device that makes pellets from paper.
2) Buy a pellet burning stove.
3) Subscribe to every catalogue out there

The post office in my area has a large trash bin right next to the post office boxed labeled "junk mail". People fill it up regularly by taking the unwanted mail from their po box and dumping it directly into the trash bin.

The postal clerks defend it all saying it just advertising.....

It's very wasteful and everyone knows it. We really need some curbs on it.

As a child, I always used to think it was extremely rude of my parents to continually slam down the phone on telemarketers.  However, I eventually found myself (when getting to be of legal age), stuck in the situations where trying to be NICE, and repeatedly stating no-thanks, simply does not seem to work.  Eventually though, I have found a simply solution to get THEM to hang the phone up on ME for a change.  Two words.  "Anal Sex".  Any time a telemarketer starts hounding on you for sales, simply bring up this topic.  It has never failed me yet, and I could swear it seems to be the only thing that actually gets me into the do-not-call-list for that organization.  But maybe that's just a coincidence.

Try it and tell me how it goes...
