Peaceful Annexation of Protectorates?

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Peaceful Annexation of Protectorates?

Post by ptan54 »

I don't have COGEE, only COG. One of the things that annoyed me in COG was the inability to peacefully annex a protectorate. In game terms, the Netherlands was a French protectorate from the revolutionary wars till 1810, when Napoleon annexed it directly to France proper. In the game, the only way I can do this is to liberate my protectorate and invade it!

Is there a way to peacefully annex a protectorate in COG? If not, I would certainly like to see this in a later patch....perhaps add in a rule that the protectorate has to have a direct land border with you, otherwise you'll get Britain annexing Hungary or Portugal.

No, you cannot annex a protectorate, as far as I know!

This is a very good point which deserves design consideration IMHO.

Does seem like a good idea.

However, I can think of plenty of protectorates who would be happy with being a protectorate, but might have problems with being annexed.  So it definitely shouldn't be easy.  Perhaps there is a type of "coup" attempt necessary (much easier than a current Coup attempt), which risks rebellion if it fails?
