Tip: Utilising defensive fire

Post by Fred98 »

Whenever an attacker makes an attack, there is a chance the attacker will take some step losses.

On top of that, there is a chance that a defender, will inflict more step loss on an attacker. In the manual this is called direct defence.

When you are on the defence, you want to increase the chance that this extra step loss will occur. Here is the way:

The first screen shot shows a typical anti tank unit stacked together with an infantry unit.

Note the anti tank unit has a blue dice with a "3" and the infantry unit has a blue dice with a “5”. This means, on the defence, the anti tank unit needs to bowl a 3 or better to destroy an enemy step and the infantry unit needs to bowl a 5.

The next screen shot is a small portion of the combat screen as evidence.

From this we learn that, on the defence, the good players, will carefully choose which units to place ahead of advancing enemy troops. Inflicting those extra step losses will quickly stall an enemy’s offensive.

Thanks for the tip.  My computer broke down for awhile so I was away for awhile.  I'm getting back into posting and hopefully get a fight going too in the next few days.

Excellent advice to keep in mind. I need to think more defensively. Thanks Joe. [&o]

Does this mean that if say a 3 is rolled, both units will each inflict a step loss to the enemy for a total of 2 step losses in addition to those of the CRT?

No, just the flak unit. The infantry needs a five or 6.
