Sub Runs Back to Home Base for No Apparent Reason

Post by EWGuttag »

In my Guadalcanal scenario (see Eric's Guadalcanal Diary thread), one of my subs (Grayling) won't stay out on sub patrol, but quickly runs back to its home base. Any suggestions on what could be happening here?

Could be low on fuel or out of ammo or damaged to much or she is to far from port and is returning to re-fuel.

If she's on a minelaying mission, once the mines are laid the sub will head for home.  Change it to sub patrol and they'll stay where you want (but with only a few torpedoes).

Check to make sure it is not under computer control. Weird things happen when you let the AI try to help.

Weird things like chasing after enemy CV's and getting sunk in the process? yeah had that happen once, or run its self into a minefield repeatedly to target an enemy tanker.

AI is so funny sometimes purposely sinking my boats.. Or not.

since i am an ex-submariner, i can probably tell you why your sub returns to port so quickly, but the forum frowns on this kind of talk. think women.

Misconduct,

You get a "gold star".  I finally checked the sub (actually the Greenling) and it was out of torpedoes (may not have even been loaded when it first arrived).  Now heading back to Nomea to reload.
