The Topsy Minesweeper

Post by maikarant »

Hi,

One of my very very few posts in this forum... :)

To counter my anticipative AE pre-withdrawal syndroms, I have recently started a stock game against a japanese AI. I'm doing reasonably well while still assuming some quasi-historical progress. While I was fighting my version of the Coral Sea Battle, which was won by the RAAF, I almost missed a tiny piece of information hiding there among the heap of operations and battle reports:

I wonder what happened in Kwajalein: I had the SS Argonaut lay some mines there a couple of days ago. I cross checked - there is no floatplane variant of the Topsy. ;) Any ideas? Did it crash into the drink, right on top of a sub mine?

Cheers,
Maikarant

This is bleed over. Sometimes operational AC losses will be displayed when minefileds are encountered. You may also see ship sinkings. Don't worry, it did not happen there. [8D]

Obviously this is a bug.  It happens.  The Topsy was actually destroyed either due to op losses, flak, or some other such thing during a previous part of the phase, however it gets reported on the next damage report.

...either that or the Japanese are blowing up mines by dropping Topsies on them.

Ah! Mundane reasons then. I am a tad disappointed, because I had envisioned a real romantic, gut-roaring reason with a heroic transport plane plunging into a minefield to save a convoy or three, heading into their doom unawares... but I digress.

Thanks! ;)

The only other possibility (I think)

If you had an AK in the TF and it was hit by a mine, some of its cargo could be damaged

(But I cant see an AK in your TF)
