Quick (maybe!) Database question

Post by erichswafford »

Can anyone, in a reasonably quick way, tell me what differentiates each of the available DB's? In other words, is there an underlying "philosophy" to each one that would help me understand them better?

I noticed that point defense in ANW2.1 DB didn't seem quite as awesome as it did in the Original DB.

You know, stuff like that [;)]

The three official databases are the ODB, the ANW DB and the HUD 3. The ODB bases on the old H2 ODB and is maintained by AGSI. Thus an AGSI official like Russel may help you out. The ANW DB is maintained by Dale Hillier who´ll read your post.

The HUD 3 is maintained by Darren Buckley ( = Bucks) who is a core member of 3.9.x and without whom there would be no 3.9.4 which you enjoy so much.

Darren has just been banned here for 14 days because he used the wrong language while saying the right and necessary things in order to inform the community.

Yep, I saw that.  Darren's a stand-up guy for sure.  But Rules are Rules.  Hopefully I can get a little bit of clarification when things settle down.

Not correct Sir.

I posted earlier on behalf of Mr Buckley the fact that you have posted links here prior to any announcement being made as to any new or revamped HUD3 site. This posting is UNAUTHORISED.

Darren Buckley the Editor of the HUD3 has yet to upload the files that you are linking to. You are mischevious to say the least. I was sent this to paste in.
The Philosophy of the HUD3 Database:

Stay as true to the miniatures data and rules as set down by Larry Bond and Chris Carlson. By agreement with these Gentlemen, the HUD3 has access to the forthcoming Harpoon "5" data annexes. This data has and is being transferred to the HUD3 Harpoon 3 ANW 3.9.4 database. (I was told this is why things have been taking so long, according to Daz, he's had to literally check almost every data field for the DB annexes as he updates.)

The HUD seeks to be true to the original game that it was developed from (the minis) and at the same time keep modelling systems flexible enough to be handled accurately by the current ANW game engine. The Harpoon Users' Database, means just that and players/addicts are encouraged to be involved in a cooperative community effort to continue its development as well as be encouraged to construct scenarios for use with it. The HUD will minimise the use of exploits/internal game bugs at all times so as not to create possible false issues for the ANW Development Team.

There is no binding rule on the structure of the database. The available editors are flexible enough to allow for recycling or reuse of records to maintain DB size economy and overall performance. Scenarios designed with the HUD3 will be maintained in an active state for the current release by the DB Editor (Darren Buckley) and/or in conjunction with the original scenario designer. The HUD3 has been extensively used to develop many of the internal editor checks that remove issues with missing records etc. Therefore there is less concern with the need to maintain dead or used records.

Mate, it has nothing to do with you. I can't understand why you don't just answer questions posed to you. Why meddle in other people's business?

Bucks has been at work for 9 hours, hes getting "rebuilds"done, tweaking the HUD3 and he told me he was adding a big chunk of new submarine photos to cover Ralf Koelbach's (Hope I spelt that right Ralf?) PASON battleset he designed for use with the HUD3. Maybe some sleep and food would be nice, the bloke's off earning a livin and you're misleading people.

The bloke can't get here due to the ban and you want to exploit that? Pretty low act down this part of thw world or maybe us Aussies are the only ones getting this...

BTW: I've been instructed not to "engage" Mr Hum by Bucks, so don't bother I don't normally do forums. And short of tellin' ya what I think why go there? All the ships are grey and they all sink if you put holes in 'em...

Any ETA on when the new HUD3 comes out?  It sounds great!  I'm rather excited about the trend toward trying to replicate the miniatures game.  Frankly, that's a dream come true for a guy who slogged through hours in high school (back in 1984) just to resolve a couple of simple airstrikes!

This is another example of a low-level attack and unauthorized posting. I, too, am authorized by Darren Buckley, to inform the community about the following:

- Mr. Hum has no right to post this link. This new site should come as a surprise / gift to the community
- the battleset zip files are only 0 byte ones yet
- Darren is going to create the content piece by piece. And then he´ll officially inform you, guys

Guess I should not be so surprised that some would actually believe in the notion of "Authorized/un-Authorized links" when there are Solar Temple followers still in this modern day world.

Hope you have a glorious spring day.

Yes. Nice weather here. Just did a 15km run in order to train for the next half-marathon.

[:)] Yes, that´s Darren. Don´t adress me like that in the naval wargamer´s world. It´s not important who we are or what we do in real life. The only thing which counts is that we behave mature - both as individuals and as a community - while trying to improve the sims we play and have fun.

Yes, we´ve got around 18 degrees Celsius here and it is really nice these days. Good weather for long-distance running. I hope that it won´t get over 20 degrees when the half-marathon is scheduled.

Regards to Australia,
Ralf
