Vista won't unzip? Can't install H3.7disk

Post by AllenF »

New Gateway computer, intell duo core processor, Vista Home prem 64 bit, 4 gig ddr3 ram ... I have my original H3.7 purchased disk. Computer won't unzip it, and when I use explorer to look in my drive, and click the Harp icon, the error msg says "app not found."

Okay, I downloaded all 215mb of H3.9 and saved it to my desk top; tried double clicking to start the unzip or install and got the same error msg "app not found."

Any guidance will be appreciated ....

How about downloading winzip or winrar from the web? I never used the build-in packer of Vista.

Well, the plot thickens ... I did download winzip ... did extract from my harpoon disk. But after a lot of button pushes I continue to get the error message that tells me it will only work with 98e, 2000 or xp ... The disk as it turns out is 3.7 ...

I downloaded 3.9 which told me that there was no install, did I want to proceed anyway? Sure I proceeded and setup started and asked me for my serial number ... guess what, my serial number is INVALID... or so says the program ...

Very frustrating ...

I think that Invalid error may be appearing because you need a valid installation of 370 before you can apply the patch 394.

Considering you properly installed winzip, just right-click on the appropriate archive and don't forget to check the path. Doing so you won't have to smash any buttons. For possible Vista issues while installing Harpoon, set compatibility of setup.exe to WinXP + Servicepack2.

I can confirm that Harpoon works well at least under Vista 32.

You need to tell Vista to run compatiability under WinXP to run Harpoon 3.7 installer. Right click on the installer and select "Properties" then click on the compatiabilty tab, finally click apply. You should be good from there. This will work with any program that was native for WinXP and doesn't want to work under Vista.
Take my word for it. You never want to be involved in an “International Incident”.

3.7 comes up with this error message when being installed under Vista. But it runs, anyway. The newer patches don´t have that problem.

But mind one thing: Do NOT install 3.7 in the recommended path "C:\Program Files" !!! This is deadly for ANW under Vista.

Install it in C:\Matrix Games right from the start.

This problem popped upped during Beta Testing long ago and was solved by changing the installer´s path.
