Love - Hate Relationship

Post by Titanwarrior89 »

MOO3, I have always like the game. But I find people really like the game or hate it. Its really a decent game when you get into it. Just wondering if any one else has played it and what their thought are on the "Old Thing".

Hated it. It spat in the face of the magnificence that was MOO2.

Yep it's pure crap compared to MOO 1 and 2. I haven't played with any of the fan patches so don't know if that helps the game. IMO the development was mismanaged very badly.

I haven't played it in a long time, but I thought MOO3 had a lot of good ideas. I really like having the ability to specialize planets compared to MOO2 where you just built one and only one of every building on every planet. The main problem I had with MOO3, beside the bugs that were never fixed, was the lack of feedback to the players actions. Frequently, I had no idea why something was happening. Did I do something or was it a random occurence.

I think I read that Alan Emrich (spelling?), who designed MOO3, said they pitched MOO 2.5, which would have been great, but Infrogames pushed them to totally change everything.

Free Orion looks good, but it has been in development for a long time and isn't anywhere close to being done. Still, I'd give them high marks for a labor of love.

I understand what your saying. I still enjoy it and really don't know why.

I thought these MOO games were about milking cows or some kind of farm tycoon series or something.  I've checked out #2 but know nothing about #3.  What is different about #2 and #3?

I remember, I liked and played 3, but as said, it wasn't as good as 1 and 2, and that was the whole point you had two great games that were improving and then the game changed, and most of the changes were not for the better, but, I still played it alot :) (just complained while doing so)

I think that MOO3 is the deepest space strategy game ever! it's the hardcore space simulation for Wargamers (much like the very good but very micromanagement oriented Space Empires IV & V). The game is always on HD...can't imagine something so great will ever be recreated...unfortunately. Still i would like a sequel to MOO1...that game is still perfect (still play it too). MOO2 was too unbalanced and the map was too small...

Cheers

PS: most bugs have gone thanks to Bhruic's patchers...game has been stable and challenging ever since.

I wouldn't say going from MOO2 to MOO3 was quite the travesty as LotR2 to LotR3 but it's close.

Sourceforge use a bunch of mirrors, and some of them are extremely slow. I think you can select another mirror if you see a slow connection.

Bhruic patches are to be installed upon a 1.25 version of the game...it's easy and fixes every bug i know. Check the Atari forums:

Here's Bhruic page:

I hated Moo 3, it ruined the series.
