Scrolling map with mouse stops working

Post by moose1999 »

I've experienced this a few times now.
After playing a while I suddenly can't move the strategic map anymore by putting the mouse cursor on the edge of the map.
I have to use the arrow buttons on the keyboard instead.
Scrolling the map up and down with the mousewheel still works, though (but not for long as Eric is about to change the mouse-wheel to zoom, instead...[;)]).

Same for me, again !(I seem to have a good system for the game few buglets [:'(]).
It works again after exiting & relaunching the game, but not after only save & reload.

Does it happen after you open/close any game sub-screens?  The only bug like this that I recall involved "non-standard" ways of shutting sub-screens, such that when they shut they didn't turn the game timer back on.  (I thought we had caught all such ways for all such screens.)  Are the animated flags still waving when the screen does not scroll?

What kind of non-standard ways are there to close a subscreen...?
I sort of had that suspecion myself - that it has something to do with opening/closing menus, but I'm not sure what you mean by the above.
Flags are still waving (I think - not 100% sure as I always restart the game immediately after this happens).
By the way, this happened to me too regularly in FOF - just didn't use the edge-scroll that much in that game for some reason so I never bothered reporting it...

Nice admiral's uniform, by the way... [:)]

I just saw the same thing.  I had to exit the game as the Strategic Map had frozen.  I was in a Unit popop and not sure how or if I exited.

Copy/paste of what my experience showed with that bug (from the "mouse lag thread) :

I just reproduced it 2 times.

I launch the game
I click on "local game"
I select Prussia, clicking on the "computer/human" button
I select a province - it is highlighted in green
I open the military advisor
I open the 1st Army by clicking on the "+" icon
I click on one of the units in that "1st Army"
Sometimes i click, it makes a sound but doesnt select the unit im clicking on ; maybe cause im clicking on the name, or i dont know why
I exit military screen and the province stays highlighted, no matter where i click on the map + scrolling with the mouse doesnt work anymore.

Just did it 2 times, ill try it again to find more about it.

Okay : edit :

It isnt country related. Did it again with Austria. I tried the following :

opening the military advisor, then closing it : no problem.
opening the military advisor, selecting a unit without getting into "sub units" : no problem
opening the military advisor, opening the container with the "+" icons, clicking on a "sub unit" : IF the sub unit is selected, and i close the military advisor, no problem ; but if i get the sound of the selection, and the unit isn't selected, i have the highlight bug + scroll bug.

Hope that helps.

Conclusion : It happens when you manage units in the military advisor, and somehow, you click on a unit but nothing is selected (but you still hear the selecting sound). When you leave the military advisor, mouse scrolling is frozen.

This may be related.

If I have a province selected (i.e. its dark green coloured) my mouse scroll speed is very very slow.  To the point I have taken to hitting spacebar to deselect any province before I even try to scroll across the map with my mouse.  It could be that in these cases the slowdown is so much as to cause (or to be so bad as to seem to cause) the map to freeze.

To the best of my memory, this is what I was doing in general when this happened to me. I've been playing many hours now but don't use the Military Advisor screen that much since my countries have been small so far. Maybe why I just noticed this by accident.
