Congratulations. It seems that the Allies will only to able to advance under LBA cover for at least another year.
BTW are any of those Allied supply convoys going to Timor?

Allies will still win! 12 Carriers? 'Tis only a scratch!

RE: it goes on...

In the 14 months (gametime) we have played he has sunk (or would have sunk) in the next day or two: 9 CVs, 7 CVL/E, 4 BBs, numerous smaller ships..........meanwhile I have managed to sink 1BB and 1CL [:(].
Well done Chris, a worthy winner[&o]

I guess Miller intended to send them to Wyndham, haven´t spotted anything going towards Timor.

I have just offered my final surrender to Chris. I have played this game like an idiot and paid the penalty.

thanks Paul! Like I´ve mentioned in our email conversation already, I really enjoyed our game and it was an honour to play against you. [&o]
I can only recommend Paul as really worthy and reliable opponent to everyone here on the forum, if you look for a great opponent and you get the chance to play against this British football fan then go ahead and take him on.
Cheers Paul!

Who said Japan could not win WW2 ? Castor, any sight of the supply convoy ? If on top of that brilliant aeronaval victory, you can add the destruction of a dozen divisions...[&o]
By the way, I couldn't help but notice the AV in Manchuria went up above 16000 now.[8D]

Damn', you beat me there, I was thinking the same. It'd be a really interesting end of war, with so many CVs sunk so early, and thus so many Essex-class replacements in early '44.ORIGINAL: bigbaba

RE: it goes on...
Very good game, you guys certainly kept it interesting.
Miller had some good manuevers, but I think Mr. Castor Troy really played a good aggressive game and takes the cake here. I'm not sure Miller quite had the large battle techniques down, and with the all or nothing approach towards concentration of Japanese forces, I think Miller ran into some trouble.
Good game! Good game!

I said Japan can´t win WWII. [;)] Not in real life, not in the game. Well, you can in the game, but only if you play vs the AI. Against the AI you can take every base on the map but I doubt that´s fun anyway.
The destruction of a dozen divisions would be nice but the chances to do so are very small. Miller provided me with the chance to strike at his navy and that´s more than a consolation prize but I doubt that Wyndham will fall.
It might look grim at the moment for the Allied carrier force but there aren´t that many CVs sunk. Well, there are many of the now existing CVs sunk but if you look at the total number of CVs the Allied get over the years then it´s only a small number. At the end of 43, the Allied will have more carrier based ac again that they had 3 days ago. Which means bigbaba can field more carrier based ac than he can stack into two hexes with our stacking limits.
It certainly was a defeat for the Allied and a great victory for the Japanese. BUT it was only one big battle and while we won this aerial/naval battle, the Allied will achieve the goal of this operation: bring supplies to Wyndham. So in fact it was only a phyrric victory for me, even if it was a nice one... [;)]
It would be a major victory if I could sink the supply carrying AKs though. THAT would be a victory then...

IMO there was not really much the Allied could do to prevent me from destroying large parts of their carrier force around Darwin - Wyndham as long as they don´t knock out Darwin. I have/had nearly the whole IJN concentrated around Timor, more or less ALL the IJNAF and 80% of the IJAAF. Needless to say that 90% of my available divisions/bgds are operating on Northern Australia at the moment.
But what I also think is that while getting a bloody nose, the Allied could have inflicted losses within my Navy too. If only sinking a couple of BBs at Darwin. Darwin´s airfield was the key to this victory. Send in a dozen Allied BBs in several TFs and all the available CA/CLs for bombardments and let´s see what happens. Use all your available 4Es from Wyndham to attack the airfield during the day (if only to damage 100 Tojos in the air). If there is still Cap after the bombardments and if the bombers get through then the airfield is toast or at least a lot of Tojos are destroyed/damaged. Do this BEFORE you launch your carrier born ac. No question, the enemy BBs would take damage/would be sunk but so would the Japanese. Four British BBs were around Darwin and the British fight at least as good, if not better, than the Japanese at night. There were modern US BBs, also a match for every IJN BB. And with the Allied damage control you even have good chances to save them in Wyndham which is at least a level 5 port.
Show the Japanese that you are willing to accept losses and knock out a couple of their BBs at Darwin. Knock out the airfield at Darwin and... nothing would happen. Perhaps the Allied would lose 2 or 3 BBs, the Japanese lose the same number or ALL of their BBs if the Allied knock out the Tojos. If the Allied carrier borne ac don´t strike Darwin (with nearly 300 Tojos on Cap) then I wouldn´t send in KB. And the land based strikes from Timor or New Guinea would definetely not be enough to seriously harm the Allied carriers. Would we achieve some hits? Surely. Would it be a massacre? Surely not.
I don´t want to jump on Miller, but would I have been in command of the Allied I wouldn´t have thought about having really bad odds to do serious damage. Of course everything still could go wrong (that´s what I usually assume [;)]) but if you manage to knock out Darwin´s IJAAF fighters you WIN.

Gentlemen!
As Miller was relieved from high command as the Allied commander, my previous opponent, bigbaba, takes over command of the Allied forces again. He will have to watch his first turn that will be at least as hard to watch as 12-7-41 was to watch for him... [;)]

have moved out two of my BB TFs to intercept the convoys going to Wyndham. One of them locates the supply convoy (or one of the supply convoys, not sure how many there are really). We surprise the enemy but that doesn´t mean we achieve our goals. The enemy DDs fought very well against our superior surface combat TF and they launch a hell a lot of torps. One hits BB Mutsu which heavily damages the ship. Mutsu is disbanded into Darwin´s port with 34 sys, 28 flt and 4 fires. [:(] None of my DDs will sink but another couple of them damaged...
While we kill a couple of DDs, we don´t get a shot at the AKs. Next try tomorrow, again two BB TFs on the hunt, this time also Musashi and Yamato under the command of Adm Tanaka. Would be really interesting if this is the only convoy that brings supplies. Those ships can carry something like 60-65k so if this really is the only supply convoy (which I doubt) then every single ship lost would really hurt.

Strike attacking the remaining US CVs fleeing to the West. As you can see there are several TFs heading full speed West, guess nearly everything that is afloat is now running away at full speed and that´s definetely the right decision. Spotted a lot of cruisers and destroyers, there are three US CVs (Hornet, Yorktown and Wasp) and a US CVL (Independence) on the run. Better trying to run now as long as many of my bombers are damaged and all my crews are highly fatigued, even if the enemy doesn´t have much left that can fly Cap. Seeing this lousy Cap is a good evidence of how hard the fights were in the last couple of days. Not much left that 3 CVs and 1 CVL can put into the air. Like I´ve said, my crews are really fatigued and hit rate is therfore not that great. But Hornet is hit and suffers an ammo storage explosion so I won´t complain.
What is depressing though is the number of bombers that attack such super high value targets. Guess I have at least 80+ undamaged high exp Helens at Koepang set to nav attack and 3 decide to take off. There are 60.000 supplies, the af is of course not overstacked and we have an air HQ there...

RE: it goes on...
Since the allied CVs will likely have to refuel soon after a few full speed runs have you thought about sending a SAG into Broome's harbor?

afternoon strike from Koepang, again against the TF with Hornet and Yorktown. Again I can only shake my head about the number of bombers, this is a wet fart when I look at the bomber numbers at Koepang. But considering the number of bombers and the fatigue of the crews, this was an amazing result. It´s a pity that we split our attacks between both carriers. Hornet was hit in the morning by a torp, suffered an ammo storage explosion and now takes another torp and suffers again an ammo storage explosion. [&o] Should be quite damaged now, one or two more torps would probably done her in. Yorktown takes three torps but no follow on explosions and while the ship is on fire, it doesn´t even show up as heavily damaged.
So what will bigbaba do with this TF now? Bringing back Yorktown and Hornet to Wyndham (would mean they will be in attack range tomorrow also, probably for two days), or moving them towards Perth, then they will perhaps still be in range tomorrow. But it´s a loooong way to Perth and I doubt that both would make it, only with a hell a lot of luck. IMO a move towards Wyndham would mean both will be sunk. CV Lexington is also at Wyndham, at least this is what Miller stated in his last email. This attack really made the overall situation for the Allied totally catastrophic. With bad weather over Koepang or a worse hit rate, the Allied would have lost a lot, but the would still have Yorktown, Hornet, Wasp and CVL Independence that could have got away. why risking the whole USN and RN to bring supplies to Wyndham? The troops there don´t need any supplies at all, they get an insane adjusted av anyway while we don´t even bring down the forts. This was our fourth attack and all that happens is that our losses are getting higher with every attack... that´s just crazy. We have used up nearly 50.000 supplies from Darwin already, that´s surely a couple of times more than the Allied even had at Wyndham at the start of the siege and they still don´t suffer at all... nice die rolls...

wonder if the six Allied divisions four hexes South of Darwin will ever dare to attack. Doubt they are in good supply. My divisions are, they are drawing supplies from our huge storages at Darwin while the Allied have to draw them from Alice Springs over a dozen of hexes of roads and rail. And I doubt that Alice Springs has a lot of supplies anyway. So the next place would be in the Townsville area, probably too far away...

why risking the whole USN and RN to bring supplies to Wyndham?

Since the allied CVs will likely have to refuel soon after a few full speed runs have you thought about sending a SAG into Broome's harbor?
I dont´t have surface combat groups in the area of Broome. Well I have lots of heavy cruisers at Koepang but I surely won´t send them in against modern US BBs. Just one hit that slows them down and the enemy torp bombers would eat them as soon as the sun sets.
I´m still going with the motto of inflicting as much losses as possible but not at all costs. Yorktown and Hornet are damaged now, if they sink that´s great. If they don´t sink, I can live with it. I don´t want to risk a couple of heavy cruisers just to have a small chance to get a shot at them.

RE: it goes on...
Now let´s post some really nice screenshots. We start off with the BB/CV/CVL that are confirmed sunk.
So far there were BB South Dakota, Warspite and Valiant confirmed sunk. I guess BB Revenge could be dead also, took three torps. Only US CV that is confirmed sunk is CV Essex, didn´t have a long carreer. [:D] But Lexington took several torps, Hornet is heavily damaged and Yorktown too. Chances for those three CVs to survive aren´t that good. Would mean 5 US CVs sunk, with Saratoga and Enterprise that were lost earlier. The British should have one left somewhere I guess, aren´t there four of them around at this date? But why using the totally obsolete CVL Hermes then that was also sunk?
Guess this list will look even better in two months time because by then FOW sunk ships will also show up and we will see what will happen in the next days...

And here are the CVE losses that went down with the British CVs. But those CVEs will be replaced in the dozens...
