Militia losses first round

Post by DodgyDave »

Had a nice battle yesterday, attacked Austria at Vienna, escalated assault vs outflank (they got Charles), but appears they had 1G, 30I, 25M and 6C vs my 20G, 102I, 24C and 12A, so poor overall morale, so i broke them first round, i lost 1I and they lost 25I (nice roll of 6(7)

but why did they loss 25I?

normal rules say, you can always lose MIL first round, nomatter morale loss and first second round, it will become an issue with morale...

I'm willing to be corrected but I can't find a reference to the rule that you can always lose militia in the first round either in the EiANW rules or the original rules. Can you direct me to it ?

well might just be my mistake here, refer to 7.5.2.9.2.1, but still effected by "house rules" others used, when i first began to play this game years ago... so militia are worse then i thought...

7.5.2.9.2.1: [/b]Where possible, militia casualties may be taken only until (not including) the round in which the cumulative morale loss of the army equals or exceeds 2.0.
So as long as your morale loss in the round is not greater than 2.0, you can take Militia.  If your morale loss the first round was say 2.1, you are taking Infantry loses.

Technically, "greater than or equal to", not just "greater than".

Also, it's possible to have to take cavalry or even guard factors. Let's say the Prussians instead had 1G, 55M, and 6C (i.e. no infantry). In this case, they would have had to remove all of the guard and cavalry before they started losing militia.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?
