Patton 360
I caught this show on the History Channel Friday and frankly I was disappointed; one problem was that I kept getting a mental image of an armored Patton w/guns and turrent projecting out of him as he faced-off against all those Axis threats.
There were some interesting facts re Allied maneuvers in Tunisia and some footage of Patton being pompus on ship, but the 360 concept just didn't work for me.
Hopefully the show will grow on me like the Enterprise 360 series; maybe time will tell.

Patton 360 was replayed Sunday, but apparently no one else has seen this show?

Joe,
I saw it, but wasn't very impressed... I am not impressed with the 3D series on the History Channel... IMO the History Channel has really fallen off for me....besides... the Royals are on tv now, no time for anything esle!

I didn't like it much. It was interesting bit of historical review of US operations in Morocco but the show itself was not so good.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

I also was not impressed. I think that the carrier action of the previous show was much better, even though I am much more interested in ground combat. It seems like Patton was somewhat forced into the 360 format and it didn't really work for me. I did learn some interesting facts about the Torch landings, but that certainly didn't make the show.
Yes, the History channel is all but dead to me as well. When they do actually show something that is related to history; other than Axe Men and Gangland; it seems that they are going toward the flashy stuff such as Battles B.C. Obviously inspired by 300. I guess I really need to get the Military Channel.

Battles BC was something of a shock; IMO, its treatment of biblical "heroes" bordered on anti-semitic.
The last really good show I saw on the HC was "Dogfights," which was a good mix of CG, interviews and info; I wonder what's going on w/that channel?

I watched Patton 360 last night and I thought it was okay. I don't know much about that campaign in Africa so I learned a bit.
I find shows on the Military Channel are much better. I got it a few months ago and I watch it all the time. History Channel (and History International) have really went down the toliet in the last couple years with all the reality shows and other non-history shows. Pretty soon they'll probably start showing wrestling.

You mean like the SciFi channel does one night a week?

At least the "fiction" part is right. [:)]

To jump on the bandwagon, the History Channel is spotty at best these days in terms of interesting, accurate content. Some shows are can be mildly interesting, IF you already know the topic and they show some visuals you haven't seen before. But they can also be misleading as they are often either " dumbed down " or just plain wrong in what is presented as fact. I do appreciate the use of CGI when used appropriately .

I eventually tired of this series, as well. I mean, I know the network is US based but, there were PLENTY of great pilots from all nationalities that never got profiled because they were not American. I mean just because Hans Joachim Marseille or Saburo Sakai were not American pilots does not deter from their greatness. If you profile Marseille it does not make you pro-Nazi, it just means you recognize a great pilot when you see one. H3ll, he shot down 17 enemy aircraft in ONE day. Including 8 kills in 10 minutes. I also do not recall any British or other Allied pilots being profiled on the show, although I may not have seen every episode. There were plenty of fighter pilots from WWI onward that deserve recognition for their abilities regardless of the flag they served.

I think they did show a German WWI pilot(red barron or something like that) on dogfights.

They also interviewed Israeli pilots.

I’m not really certain who the HC was targeting with this one ?
Obviously as we see from the replies here it did nothing to spark history buffs interests, maybe this mess was for the channel surfer , Who knows ?
I made it about 10mins into the show and lost interest , HC should just stick with the Axe men viewers if this is their attempt at history .
Waste of time.

RE: Patton 360
My almost 8 year boys watched it twice, and they love Dog Fights, so maybe that is their new target audience.
RE: Patton 360
My 10 year old liked it also. I suppose if you look at the show from the perspective of someone who knows who Patton was but isn't all that familiar with the details of his military career (other than the Hollywood fiction move "Patton") then Patton 360 was probably worthwhile. I did like that they pointed out the difference between a tank & a SP artillery piece. Also liked the CGI images of the French Renault tanks. Don't see that anywhere else on TV. I'm a military history geek & I thought it could have been better, but also could have been a lot worse. I'll probably watch the whole series.

My main point is that they could've gotten a lot more mileage out of the Dogfight! series if it were not so Amerocentric.

Basically, HC has gone the route of American Movie Classics. Mass appeal pablum. AMC used to show uncut movies. Now they're showing the version of Smokey and the Bandit(that was edited for TNT in the 70's) along with a bunch of other dubbed over/bleeped out crap . Smokey could be shown completely uncut and barely garner a PG-13 rating nowadays.
