Japan subs not repairing fully

Post by Chris21wen »

Scenario 156 CHS

I have two Japan subs both in Japn ports with repair facilities, on has got a Fleet HQ as well but neither sub will repair fully. One (see pic) was initially at Kwajelein (If I spelt it right) for 3 months. It repaired down to 1 sys point and stopped. I moved it to Tokoyo and its been there for a further 2 months and still won't repair. In both cases they are Type C1 Class and its the same forward torp tubes.

I can accept a dice roll but this is plain stupid.

Any ideas.

It´s not just a glitch though. IMO it´s a bug as while the tubes aren´t damaged anymore, you will now find your sub firing salvoes of 7, 8, 9 or more torps at once. And when you hover the mouse over the TF you will find a strange number of torps being loaded.

While the official answer always was: "it´s only a display error", the officials always have been obviously wrong about that. Why they never tried to fix it is beyond me anyway.

Allied subs get this right again when they undergo upgrades, Japanese subs stay like this as they never upgrade. You now have a sub with probably more tubes than it should have.

well, it IS a display error (i.e. - it only effects what you see and not what is actually happening)... and i am not an official... it is (was) supposed to be fixed in the next patch, iirc, but the "next patch" has been on indefinite hold with the release of AE.

i agree, it is annoying. [:@] [;)]

EDIT: i've never seen the part where the subs fire 7, 8, etc. torpedoes, so i don't know about that... if it IS related to the other, i agree, it is a bug, however, i've not witnessed it (so far.)

I've seen the same thing for Allied subs, esp. right after upgrades.

As I recall, it was stuck like that until the next upgrade.  But since you don't have any more upgrades, you may be SOL.

You've still got 4x functioning bow tubes tho.  So at least it's not neutared.  It's just going to get killed by Allied ASW anyway, at least he'll 4 shots off!  [;)]

-F-

(* edit - Ah. Just a display error. Better than permanant! *)

After thinking about this, i DO recall HMS ROVER launching 8 torpedoes at once, but this is the only ship that i've seen doing this in CHS158 (Soviets + NikMod)... i thought it was because maybe she had 8 torpedo tubes in the bow, but i just now checked and she doesn't... so, either this is the glitch/bug described, or possibly there is an error in the database... however, it is apparently UNRELATED to the aforementioned display error since ROVER does not show any tubes damaged.

i am wondering if the problem with torpedo launhces above 6 is related to database issues... i am going to check ROVER in the CHS scenario editor to see what is happening there, but if someone notices "super-launches", it might be worth checking the database in their game...

i also am wondering if for some reason the game allows/reports multiple attacks all in one message (i.e. - the sub launches fore and aft torpedoes, and they all get reported in one message.) [&:]

Just checked the scenario editor... ROVER definitely has fore and aft torpedoes, so either it is a glitch/bug as Castor Troy has stated, or an Easter Egg (undocumented "feature") as described in my prior message...

It IS curious that only ROVER does it in my game... i need to look at the commander, but i can't find him in the database so far... it is a real shame that the database doesn't seem to have a "find" feature, so that you literally have to look at 1000's of entries to try to find something that is typically NOT in alphabetical order... find more of those "damaged" subs and if you get them to attack enemy shipping you will see "strange" numbers of torps launched. And they are always higher than what could be launched by a sub of a certain class. And if it´s just a display error, this display error does nice damage if it hits...

Thanks... [8D]

As for the "damaged" tubes, we have several ships wandering around with them, but the only time i've seen the "super"-torpedo launch (8 fish) is with HMS ROVER, and that ship does NOT have damaged tubes...

i will keep an eye out for the problem, but again i wonder if it is just the combat routine reporting... i've also noticed that subs will sometimes launch torpedoes in prolonged actions (you hear them, and they deplete the supply on board) but it doesn't mention that torpedoes are being fired in the combat report... so i am wondering if it is something analogous.

I will keep an eye out for those torp launches, as well.  I had almost a dozen subs in port waiting months for those tubes to repair until you guys set me straight.  [:@][&o][:@][&o]

As to check if your tubes are fully repaired: after fully loading the ship, check to see if the number of torpedoes loaded is the same for other ships in the same class (that don't have the "repair" problem)... if it is, the ship is fully repaired and you are good to go... however, if you've had ships in a good repair port for several months, they are almost certainly repaired.

I bet that they will have a different (higher) loadout than other subs of the same class. At least it´s like that in ALL of my games with ALL of my "damaged" subs. Could be different in ALL other WITP versions out there...

This is beginning to sound more and more like you are having a different problem than the one most people have described... i've never had someone say the torpedo loadouts aren't ok, and never had people describe the torpedo launch problem associated with the "broken" tubes that you describe.

You might want to send this into the devs for further checking. Maybe you have some file corruption??? [&:]

If other folks ARE having this problem, it would also be good to know.

EDIT - you mention this is happening in MULTIPLE games?? Is this correct, or am i misinterpreting??

Castor is right, this is an old bug. B1 class subs for example should have 18 torpedoes, not 33. No rear tubes anyway. Same problem for other subs (RO type has 22 for example).
The subs with the damaged tubes will fire more torpedoes and have a better chance to hit a target.

yeah, this is an old bug that is happening in multiple games. Has been a long time around already. Came up with some patch that broke something as it wasn´t ALWAYS around. Look at Likendeeler´s post above, it´s exactly the same as I´ve described it. While I get messages of strange numbers (always more than usual) I can of course not prove that really more torps are launched, so when I say that I have the feeling it really is like this then it´s because those salvoes of 8 or 9 torps seem to always hit...

OK - it looks like maybe there are two separate bugs: the "display" one, where the tubes only LOOK damaged, and this one (which i hereby dub the CASTOR TROY BUG [&o] [:D] ) where the number of tubes is off... this one (as you said) is obviously not a display error!
