Surrender Issues...

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Hard Sarge,

In your image you posted with the massive Turkish army in France, what do the many little dots mean around the city of Brest?  Those are new?

And I have to admit, I am beginning to wonder about the release date on the patch.

sorry for the delay, been working on something else

that would be a super Fortress (don't think that is the term they are using, but it fits)

provinces that were known to have better then normal defences, have been given Super fortesses, the way seiges work vs these are different then normal Provinces

notice anything else ?

Mob limit is what you can build, you can still capture units after you pass your Mob limit

most of my Arty you see, is either Captured or Levied (I normally rename Captured Guns, Levied I leave alone, unless I have a reason)

Greesh, you can pick up the little yellow dots, but not see anything else ?????

YAY! :)

So, supply sources have to be relatively large cities?!?!?! :)  That would be cool!

I would definitely also make "Flanders" and southern "Netherlands" super-fortress regions.  And if Brest is a super-fortress, then northern "Netherlands" should be too.  I was studying this just last night.  These three regions hat a tremendous amount of fortifications which were modern and built in the "Age of Artillery".  Just 100 years before Napoleon, campaigns through these regions were slug fests and simply the reduction of one fortress after another after another.

In fact, their numbers would have put the fortresses in Brittany (around Brest) to shame.

As far as I can tell, in terms of the number of modern "age of artillery" fortifications, the order of density would have been:

1. Flanders
2. Southern Netherlands (I forgot its CoG:EE name)
3. Luxemburg tied with Picardy
4. Northern Netherlands (I forgot its CoG:EE name)
5. All others follow here at number 5 or below.

I don't know where your cut off point is for the award of this "super fortress" status. But these first five regions should be on the list before others are handed out.

ORIGINAL: Anthropoid

The three things I think need adjustment given this is the way the strategic level of conquest among major powers works:

1) AI acts like it can 'beat' me if it conquests a single province. The AI is pretty similar to the AI in Civ, i.e., he tries to "take" provinces, when in fact it is pointless unless he has declared Total War.

2) Fleets are too easy to capture(?) Not sure on this, only know how easy it was for me once, but never heard the devs respond to that thread yet.

3) teleporting units

There will always be things that can get improved in a design.

I agree entirely with your acessment even if my impression is ship capture is a bit like an all or nothing proposition. I think a way to balance it would be to increase the costs of turning captured ships into one's navy. In reality, it was rarely a trivial matter.

I'd rank your concerns as:

1) Teleporting Units (this has a significant impact in operational strategy)

2) Any improvements for the AI are worth it. This is a good example.

3) Captured ships.

Question for the Sarge:

If you choose to deploy out of a defeated enemy, do your troops appear back at home the very next turn? Is distance a factor? Moscow to Paris should take longer than Berlin to Paris.

yea, but...

you don't really go from Moscow to Paris, (depends though) but from/to the closest provinces you own, to the enemy Nation, so if you owned any land in Poland and was in a war with Russia, you would get you choice of some Polish Provinces to move to

(now, if you were at war with Russia and didn't own any provinces but what France starts with, you may go all the way back to France, but even then it would be to the border provinces)

in fact, I don't think you would go from Berlin to Paris either

The only real problem I have with the strategic redeployment is that even when everything is hunky-dory, you can't move troops that quickly.  I am in a PBEM game now (having lots of fun, even as little Sweden :D) and I am watching as France attempts to race troops from Denmark to Paris since a British invasion force has landed in Normandy.  This will take about 3 turns, through territory which France controls 100%.

Anyway, it is still a good game.  And I am still having fun.

OK, not Moscow to Paris but to the nearest French territory. But does it still just take only one turn? Distance and quality of the roads really ought to be a factor if this can be programmed. Even Moscow to Warsaw would take more than a month.
