Turn 7

News:
  • Nicaragua mobilizes on Germany's side.
  • US Shock increases to 80.
  • Soviets concerned over the South American situation. + 10 Soviet Intervention
  • Soviet leaders concerned over CSA traitors. + 5 Soviet Intervention

Supply: 27
VP: 152
LP: 8/8 - the "NYC refugees" were mostly crushed
AS: 21/22

Fronts - Panama: Well, they've gotten most of their cavalry up to Panama. His main infantry stack can be seen 2 turns from the Canal. The Brazilians will be able to bring approximately 1 1/2 to 2 full stacks of units to bear (intelligence suggests at least 1 arty, 7 inf, 4 cav, 2 HQ) against the garrison, which consists of 6 subpar infantry regiments, a battalion of heavy engineers (HQ unit), and a battalion of medium howitzers. I should be able to hold the position until Turn 10.

The Nicaraguans and their stack have activated as well. I doubt he will use it to try to surround Panama, but the extra units I sent there just might scare him into doing so, which will lose him a sizeable chunk of time. However, if he decides to take Nicaragua's army north, he will defeat Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Honduras easily enough. The army will be pretty used up by then, though, and an attack on Belize will see its destruction and will require a Mexican detachment to put down Belize.

If the Brazilians send men to take Cuba or some of the other islands, they will waste forces needlessly, something I always welcome. An attack through the south of Cuba will end in exhausted, unsupplied troops reaching Havana in time to surrender. The rest of the Carribean will certainly contest any regional invasions, and even if the defenders fall, the Axis player gets only a few measly VPs for his trouble.

South: Mobile, Jacksonville, and Atlanta have fallen.

Knoxville was nearly taken by 60 Reg of the 40 Pz Div.

I see where each of his formations is probably heading to next, and I'm worried. I'm worried because the 2 ID will attack New Orleans, 40 Pz Div will attack Knoxville, 50 ID, 1 ID, and 28 Pz Div will take Chattanooga, and the Tejas Korps will simultaneously go for Memphis, Jackson, and Orlando - and those forces are capable of defeating me in each and every one of the aforementioned cities. I'll get regular infantry units after turn 9...but can I delay the German advance for long enough?

North: The capital has really done well in this game. Jakalo managed to hold it till turn 10, but I don't think I'll be replicating his feat this time. I'd say the probability of DC holding for another turn is 50/50 at best.
The 304 Mech and 201 Recon attacked Louisville but failed. They will definitely  succeed next turn, and when they do I've got a huge force ready to take the road behind them and encircle them.

The New York Dream failed, and probably half of the units in that pocket have been lost. Soon, he will send that giant force west towards Ohio and through the Appalachians. It will be bolstered by the units besieging DC after they take the city. One of my top priorities is to get units there immediately. En route are the 63 ID and 42 ID, as well as assorted NG regiments.

Buffalo was taken by those German tankers.

Canada as a whole is very interesting. That bridge I blew a couple of turns ago...the river was forded by ferrymen and several Italian units crossed. When I saw the situation, I panicked and sent more men than are necessary to clean up the mess.

He has small Italian/Romanian detachments outside Quebec and Montreal as well, and he even attacked Montreal with a paltry force and got thrashed. He clearly underestimated the size of the Canadian Home Guard, which is quite large. Germany's allies will suffer dearly for his misjudgement.

Unfortunately, those Hussars/Canadian tanks are in reorg again.

FIGHT: Devastated infantry regiment of the 70 ID vs German recon

These guys are about to be swallowed up, but they were active and adjacent
to Atlanta, which is only held by some scouts, so I thought, why not?
The attack was supported by B-25s and B-26s, of which 4 were lost. The infantry
took moderate equipment losses, while the Germans lost only a truck.

Turn 8

News:
  • Japanese Forces Capture Hawaii
  • Zimmerman's Mexican Diplomacy Successful, Mexico Mobilizes on America's Southern Border
  • Loss of New York Concerns Soviets. + 5 SI
  • Worker Sabotage Hinders Soviet Production. - 5 SI

On the News: Mexico is about to enter the fight. It will field one army at first, but soon enough a second one will be formed. I hope they invade full force through Arizona and New Mexico where the 4th Army is stationed.

The 4th Army is made up of more than a full stack of well-trained motorized infantry and tankers that are strong enough to knock out 2 German divisions even now.

Plus, if he somehow overwhelms me through superior generalship I can always call up the Marine Corps and 30 ID from California.

Supply: 28
VP: 152
LP: 8/8
AS: 30/21

Fronts - Panama: Well, the Brazilians have assembled all their troops. Nearly  2 full stacks. Thankfully, they are low on supply after a long march and
are much weaker than my regiments. They do have overwhelming numerical superiority though, and I doubt my troops will hold the Canal for more than a turn.

The Nicaraguans don't seem to be doing anything.

South: He's not making any moves towards Florida.

The 2 ID is spreading out, so it's going for Jackson now. He might be sending a single regiment to scout out New Orleans though.

The Tejas Korps took Birmingham and is stationed in its vicinity.

50 ID and 28 Pz continue to skirmish with my defeated troops north of Atlanta.

I can't find any trace of 1 ID, which worries me. What are they up to?

60 Reg of 40 Pz Div with supporting elements attacked Knoxville again and was repulsed.

North: The Germans STILL failed to take Louisville, so I'm speeding things up by sending the 2 RR to block the road behind them and cut them off from their supplies. It's kind of a gamble, as they will probably notice and those two units can easily surround and hurt 2 RR, and even if they fail the lack of supply would damage it as well. Still, no matter what they do I'm bringing down the rest of the force from Cincinatti
to crush them.

DC is still mine, and it's actually better fortified than last turn.

Philadelphia hasn't been taken yet, mostly because of the constant influx of Pennsylvanian National Guardsmen. I've dug in everyone I could to delay the Germans
for as long as possible.

There is a strange stack in northern New York. Is it a new division or the beaten-up one that was unsupplied during the siege of New York City?

The Hungarians have contributed an army to the Axis cause and it is heading towards Montreal. I need to reinforce that city immediately.

There were two battles this turn. The first was against a tank regiment of 56 Pz Div and the divisional HQ, which fell into my trap and were outflanked. The second was an attack on some Italian troops
by Canadian forces.

FIGHT 1: Canadian infantry + American infantry, tanks, and artillery

A horrific defeat in which an entire regiment of Canadian grenadiers was lost. The panzers were forced to retreat, but a huge amount of men, 85 MGs, 18 AT guns, 13 arty pieces, 81 mortars, many transport vehicles, and 9 tanks were lost. The Germans lost a battalion of infantry, 15 MGs, 14 mortars, and a measly 2 tanks.

FIGHT 2: Canadian infantry vs Italian infantry

The battle was a great victory. A dozen supporting aircraft, 6 mortars, 7 MGs, and  2 platoons were the casualties, while the Italians lost a small battalions worth of men - including 2 dozen MGs, 17 mortars, and 33 supporting aircraft.

A second attack cost the Canadians 8 supporting aircraft, 7 MGs, 5 mortars, and 2 more platoons. Half of the Italian force was destroyed or
captured, and 3 dozen supporting aircraft were taken down.

A third attack nearly destroyed the Italians outright.

Turn 9 - 7/2/42

News:
  • US Forces Continue Recovery - Shock 90%
  • US Citizens Take Up Arms; Guerrilla Activity Starts
Supply: 33
VP: 152
LP: 12/12
AS: 24/21

Fronts - Panama: The Brazilians failed to take Panama. I am confident that I can keep it for a while longer. The good news is that 2 Brazilian units appear to have dissolved due to heavy casualties. The bad news is that Colombia has thrown in its lot with the Axis and a fresh army is coming to aid the Brazilians.

South: I still can't find the 1 ID.

The 2 ID is also invisible except for an artillery unit or two. I will bomb one of those with some planes to see if they have any AA equipment worth mentioning.

There are two possibilities regarding 2 ID's location:
a. It is gathering along the Mississippi River and waiting for the circled ferry unit to arrive, at which point it will cross the river in force and cut off New Orleans while surrounding the stack near Jackson.
b. It is resting up west of Mobile for an offensive with either Jackson or New Orleans as the objective.

The Tejas Korps is streaming towards Memphis. The fresh 28 ID from St. Louis is ready to support the garrison. If the Germans try to surround the city, they will get a nasty surprise.

The Germans are almost done with mopping up the leftovers of the Atlanta campaign. Knoxville was nearly taken, and the local garrison unit evaporated. The NG regiment retreated. It is in fact literally undefended and will be taken next turn. Chattanooga is dangerously close to becoming encircled. I will probably have to evacuate next turn.

North: The RR unit was attacked and incurred fairly sizeable losses, but now that mechanized regiment is tired and unsupplied, and I'm going to kill it with fire.

DC is still mine in Turn 9. Unfortunately, the defenses to the north were forced to retreat into the city. Any future assaults will benefit from a flanking bonus. More units will be attacking the city itself as well. I had a good run, but it's time to give it up.

As you can see, a new defensive line is being formed along the Ohio River. Most of the men need to be concentrated around Pittsburgh and along the southern coast of Lake Erie, which is where the
main enemy offensive will approach from. Currently a small force is coming through the mountains, ostensibly to surprise me.

The remnants of the once-mighty divisions defending Philadelphia and New York City are pitiful to behold.

A killing blow will be delivered to the Italian army.

FIGHT 1: Enterprise Bombers vs German Artillery

Absolutely nothing happened. But if I got real bombers, like B-17s, to attack one of these it would crumble into dust.

FIGHT 2: US Infantry and Engineers vs German Mech troops

6 trucks, 7 MGs, 6 mortars, and nearly 2 companies were lost. It was, however, a victory - the Germans lost at least as much and were forced to retreat.

I pressed my advantage and attacked again with air support. This time a battalion of scouts was one of the defenders. The battle was costlier but proportionally more successful. The Germans can be supplied again, though. At least I severely weakened the two units.

FIGHT 3: Canadian Tanks vs Italian Infantry

A platoon, 6 tanks, and a B-17 were lost. A fifth of the Italian force was destroyed.

Afterwards, a probe resulted in an RBC and the evaporation of one of the Italian units. The survivor was attacked again and parts of it fled in different directions.

Mexico: The Mexicans have crossed the border in two places. It's all very disorganized and the Mexican Army units are spread thin. I might even be able to destroy them piecemeal as they come.

South:
"The 2 ID is spreading out, so it's going for Jackson now. He might be sending a single regiment to scout out New Orleans though."

My Turn 8 assessment was correct. One regiment near New Orleans, the rest to Jackson. Some elements of 1 ID are in the area as well.

The mechanized divisions of the Tejas Korps are outside Memphis, but its two tank divisions and HQ are still stationed in Birmingham.

A recon battalion of the 1 ID is near Nashville and will be attacked.

The 40 Pz Div failed to move into Knoxville, ostensibly due to supply or communications issues. It looks like I don't have
to abandon Chattanooga for now.

The 70 ID moved out of Orlando and into positions a few miles away from Jacksonville. I'm tired of keeping all of  those men unoccupied for no justifiable reason. Hopefully it will incite some sort of hasty reaction on my opponent's part. I also want to make a grab for Talahassee and rally local freedom fighters (I will get 2 NG regiments that didn't have time to show up before the city was occupied).

I'm makingone final attempt to cut off supplies from the two Amerika Korps units before I withdraw north to Cincinnati.

North: The "Pittsburgh Line" is solidifying.

DC will be gone next turn. Almost the entire garrison evaporated. All that's left is a tank regiment, an infantry regiment, and a half-strength unit of superb veteran engineers. The siege has exhausted the Germans, though, and some of their unit icons are especially pleasing to look at.

The Philadelphia Pocket is almost done.

FIGHT 2: Desperate Surrounded Infantry vs 201 Recon/50 ID

They fought ferociously enough to merit massive air support. An unknown number of men were lost, along with 24 supporting planes (2/3 fighter, 1/3 fighter-bomber). The scouts lost some transport elements, along with an AT gun and its attached squad. Only 10 German fighters were damaged or destroyed. One of the units fled northwest while the other stayed behind to delay the Germans.
