Boise is back in action
Early morning before sunrise Jan 27th 1943
The captain of the Boise looks out through the night, it is a very dark night and that is good. He can barely make out the wakes of the closest two ships, the heavy cruisers Mineapolis and Vincennes. Surrounding them which cannot be seen are 7 destroyers lead by the DD fletcher.
Their mission hit the enemy transports unloading at Nogo, they needed to retaliate for the Yamato and companies bombarding of the US troops.
Thier force was not large and would have trouble if it encountered that force, but speed was their asset, they needed to hit and get out before the Japanese bombers found them in the morning.
The radar man had spotted numerous ships shortly before hugging the coastline, they way they were arrange they probably were transports.

Corsairs over China
Jan 28th 1943 Nanchang airfield
Cpt L.K. Davis climbs out of his cockpit, he looks around as more planes begin to land at Nanchang, the day had been a rough one. The AVG alone had lost 19 planes including 11 pilots. His team had done well, thanks to the new planes. How his marine unit ended up here in china is a long story of hard luck. They had shiped across from the west coast in their Wildcats. They had been sent in with the first landings at Okinawa and had immediatly been uncrated, those were bad days, over a 60 japanese fighters plus 100 bombers during the day vs his few fighters, and at night the big ships would come in and destroy his aircraft. They had managed to fly out to Nanchang and rebuild, from then till know their job was to defend this field. Some days they won, some lost and some a tie. They would abandon Nanchang for a few days rebuild then come back.
That was till a week ago when the Japanese hit Nanchang hard and forced us out. When we landed at our reserve airfield what did his men see, but these new Corsairs for his marine unit. Today was the first test of these planes and they did well. Looking around he see's 5 planes did not make it, but most of his pilots were still green. Besides the enemy in their Tonys and Zeros outnumber us 120 to 50, and they had drawn even blood. Tommorrow would be different he heard reinforcements were on the way to replace losses plus those P-38G's. Yes this new Corsair will soon reclaim the air over Nanchang, then Okinawa he could see it now.

Capt Costin peered towards the dark shore, large explosions rocked the land as his Battleship Valient and the other British BB's hit Rangoon and hit it hard. The Japanese had pulled the airforce out and they were going to make them pay. Finally he gives the order to retire, he does not want to be caught in the daytime, bombers from Bangkok may be able to reach them. He also heard over the radio that Magwe was captured with no resistance. Finally the battle to reclaim Burma was on.

Top aide "Sir, In New Guinea the division moved from Hollandia to Aitpe and just pushed out 5 remnants of units stationed there into the jungle, we intend to bomb them till they dissapear.
At Buna we have landed another unit and they will assault tommorrow hopefully preceded by a cruiser force bombardement.
In the Solomons we landed at Shortlands and have captured the base, under 1000 troops from the 21st division were there, the 14th NZ took the base."
Kimmel "Good, this is becoming a multinational affair"
Top aide "Yes Sir, I forgot to mention operation backwater the 35th division moved from Tarawa weeks ago and has fully secured Majuro in the marshalls it has begun prepping for its next base, we expect Kwaleign to be the last out post by the end of Feb.
The British carriers have struck batavia port and damaged several transports, they were hoping to catch hiding surface or CV units but no luck, they have pulled back to safty."

Top aide "Yesterday on Jan 29th the Japs threw 150 fighters and bombers at Nanchang only about 35 fighters were able to get up from the damaged fields, we had an even exchange in the air but have been forced to withdraw again"
Kimmel "Hmmm unfortunate, but I believe these battles of attrition will affect them more then us, Very well, these are the results I was looking for from our last meeting, but the big blows, how are those going"
Top aide "Resources are moving into position Sir, the enemy will soon again be forced into a serious battle."
Kimmel "Great its been to long and we need to finish off the Japanese Navy before it rebuilds its carrier arm, dismissed"

Lark force battalion
Jan 31st, 1943
LTC Burgess scans the harbor as 2 squadrons of PBY Catalina's begin their approach landing. Everything had gone as planed, the CA Canabera and company had hit the japanese positions during the night then at dawn the Lark force battalion, NGVR and a marine para unit pushed the japanese into the mountains heading to Port Morseby.
He had also recieved communication that the 30th Aussie brigade had landed at Lae, hopefully they will be able to capture that base and shut down those pesky japanese float planes that had damaged several transports over the last week.
He gazed to the Northeast back to Rabaul, soon he thought I would like to lead the Lark Force battalion back to where we started and the recaputure of that base. He knew the military had bigger fish to fry, but that was his.

Battle for Bali begins
Feb 3rd 1943.
Bali
Mgen Ilgen of the Dutch Barisan regiment peers through the binoculars at the 5 ships unloading troops. His gunners are firing at the Japanese wading ashore and causing some havoc but not enough, he counts 2 destroyers and 3 transports. It looks like two SNLF size units. The Barisan regiment should be stout enough but he will send out a call for reinforcements none the less.
Buin
The 158th RCT begins landings at Buin, the small japanese unit defending has been pounded by B-24D's from Lunganville, like Shortland Island this to should be clear of Japanese resistance soon.

The Chinese storm across the river and shock attack Haiphong, much to the amazement of allied high command that did not realize there was a river to cross. The ensueing struggle comes out with the Chinese having a 3 to 1 advantage and reduce the Japanese forts from level 4 to 1, The chinese have been ordered to rest a few days then push the Japanese completely out.

More of the 2 SNLF's troops unload, but 2 units of swordfish flew off from CV's the day before and today launch from Bali, uping the estimate of Japanese ships to over 10+
several were damaged but these swordfish are relatively untrained. They will get experiance the next couple of days. Bali has teeth now.

Italians off Bali
SLDR Rowland pulls his fragile Swordfish up and to the right as he lets loose of his torpedo, the wake heads straight for the large ship, it had been hit 2 times a few days ago and he smiles as his torpedo runs straight and true, suddenly another eruption occurs against the ship as his torpedo strikes true. The ship shudders and appears heavily damaged know, He passes the stern and notices the flag is Italian and the name is the Conte Verde. As anti aircraft begins to diminish he wonders, whats an Italian ocean liner doing at Bali?

Nanchang and Okinawa get a breather with no airstrikes [:'(]
When watching the replay 2 days before I noticed the swordfish of Bali hit an extremely large AP with 2 torpedo's and it was only on fire, then today another fish put it in the Heavy damaged catagory. I looked at the name Conte Verde and figured must be a mistake, a quick google check brought a surprise!
History Fact
SS Conte Verde was an Italian Lloyd Sabaudo Line ocean liner active in the early 20th century. It was built in 1923 and had a GRT of 18.765. She originally provided transatlantic passenger transport between Genoa and New York City. After acquisition by Italian Line in 1932, she became a part of Lloyd Triestino (also chartered by Italian Line) for service between Trieste and Shanghai.
Due to the Italian Armistice in 1943, she was scuttled in Shanghai by Italian forces to prevent seizure by Japanese forces; but the Japanese forces recovered the ship that same year. The ship was towed to Japan, repaired, and converted into a troopship. However, in 1944, she was sunk a second and final time by a United States B-24 bomber near Kyoto.

Feb 7th.
SLDR Rowland pilots his swordfish back to Bali after another successful day hitting Japanese ships surrounding Bali, as he begins his approach he notices a large number of men running across the field, hurding others around. His Swordfish bumps then settles down the runway as he comes to a stop, the men turn out to be Japanese troops and they rush his plane leveling their guns. He gazes over to the command tent and notices Mgen Igen commander of the Barisan regiment being held at gunpoint. The realization hits him like a cold slap in the face. Bali is once again controlled by the Japanese.
Feb 9th.
The ships race towards Timor and drop off the first troops to land at Timor, Target Lautem, Japanese troops are detected but no fire is encountered. The troops wade ashore Timor is the new battleground.

In Burma the Japanese withdrew from Meitkla sp? (see map) and the chinese have reclaimed it. There are close to 3 divisions plus extras pulling back towards Rangoon. I believe the Chinese coming down thru Indochina is a concern [8|].

Battles in DEI
Feb 13th thru 16th 1943.
DEI
CL Durbin and Marblehead are lost east of Timor from Betties and Nells flying out of Kendari.
Lautum is captured! but 5 AK's are also sunk at Lautum unloading a baseforce, it is ashore so on the 17th we will have fighter cover.
CA Ashigara and company sweep thru and sink 2 AK's unloading supplies on the 16th and bombard the position. Thankfully 10 Ak's left during the night!
Burma
The Japanese have turned around from their retreat towards Rangoon and have started pushing 2 chinese divisions back that followed to closely! They are bombed daily but are still strong enough to push individual units. There is 2 divisions plus heading back up the rode towards Mandalay.
Solomons
The japanese are pushed out of Tulagi and are being bombarded in the jungle, it will be a few weeks before these units disapear.
Okinawa
Is once again shut down [:(].
Overall the last few days have seen dominance by the Japanese. I have a foothold at Lautum and should begin to slowly advance in the DEI, my quick grabs of Bali and Tacloban have both been extinguished due to lack of support. Lautum and Morotai have large forces and support close by. In Indochina and China forces from both sides manuvear.
The ships bombed off the chinese coast have dissapeared, not sure where they are going but troops were aboard. One of three possible directions, Lautum, Morotai or Burma?

It was a quiet day for most of the war, either storms or stand downs kept most of the normal air battles from occuring.

The Japanese moved a single unit into Wuchow, probably checking defenses, it gets evicted with big losses!

This island has a large number of units and still plenty of supplies, here and at Palambang I always suffer high AA losses, they still have supply!

Summary
The Scott has a CA Ashigara and about 9 DD's operating in the southern DEI, His main BB's are located at Tokyo and come out to bombard Okinawa to keep it shut down.
As for his CV's I have no idea where they are but I'm guessing it should be at 2 CV's and 2 CVE's give or take, not really sure, just know I have more [:D].
He has betties and nells stationed heavily at Kendari, Soerabaja, Southern Japan and Formosa, these have turned back into skilled pilots.
My shoe string operations have become unsuccessful of late and I will be turning back to well supported operations as my high AK's losses takes a toll on moving up supplies and troops. Failed operations Bali, Toclabean sp? in PI.
It was sad to see the CL Marblehead and Captain Dockery meet their demise to the Kendari Betties, I figured he moved them north, I guessed wrong.
The allied CV's have not been seen in a while, so no telling where they will show up but there is very little choices left. The British CV's were last spotted west of Soerabaja a week or so ago.
In the air war most of my fighters are low skill level so I usually lose in engagements till they overcome this experiance factor, I do have skilled pilots but they are not engaged at the moment, saving for the next big push. Below is an example of mid 50's pilots in P-38G's learning

I do not believe in bombing empty bases to build training or in flying supply missions to do training so the only experiance they get is action. A hinderance but none the less like not bombing resources unless in Japan my self imposed style.
The next logical targets?
Iwo Jima, Chi Chi Jima.
Iwo no airfield buildup but I spot a large force there, I assume fort level 9 now and he does not build up the island, so when I take it, it will take a few weeks to build up. Chi Chi Jima is the island with the planes and more troops, once again fort level 9 probably, these will be tough nuts.
Okinawa
I control Naha, he controls Naga, at Naha I have 2 divisions faced against his one and support. It will take a concentrated effort to evict him from Naga, more troops then he currently has.
Phillipines
The tacloban was a test landing and he responded quickly, with Morotai building this is an area that has to many bases for him to defend and also one that has to many bases for me to shut down. It will initially bloody to go here, but if successful my heavy bombers will range over all the DEI! and choke off Japan from its resources.
Southern DEI
Lautum is secured and I am building this up to take all of Timor, both kendari and Ambonia have flown out bombers so I need to neutralize these first before advancing further, after that I believe other then Soerabaja and Palembang this may not be strongly defended.
Malaya/Burma
He is pushing north again, I think his withdrawl was an attempt to pull me out, fortunatly for me most forces stayed at Mandalay behind lvl 9 forts and only a few chinese divisions followed out. They have since been beaten back towards Mandalay. By 2 divisions and 1 Bde type unit.
In Malaya he has some of the bases occupied and some not, have not scouted this area, but he has heavy assets at bangkok both air and land and Saigon. The british have not ventured out lately and are primed for action.
Indochina
Camranbay, he has 3 units there and I am massing the chinese at the doorstep, the battle will be joined shortly.
In my rush to push Scott fast and his early success's I have lost a lot of Ak's this has hampered a continued rapid advance, thus the lull of late, New ships are coming online almost daily so this will be remedied shortly and supplies and troops are moving forward in abundance, the engagements (plural) will begin shortly!
