Older scenarios
Gents,
Upon release there was discussion regarding how the conversion from older (notably TOAW III) scenarios, broke the events, by making some of them not to work. (or so my memory tells me.)
What is the conclusion today of this? Can previous releases scenarios be played on the Matrix Version, or does that require going through the event list seeing if anything is now broken?
Thanks.

I'd say: check those events[;)]
Or just start playing and see what happens.
I vaguely recall a Kut al Amara scenario designed for TOAW I that I opened in ACOW.
A certain type of Turkish infantry now had helicopter movement.
Hey. Think of it as a hypothetical.

Thanks guys.
Not very useful that the backwards compatibility is an issue though...

jmlima,
I don't know if this is useful, but here it is. Japlance converted all of these TOAW I scenarios over to the Matrix version. A WinRAR application will extract them.

I'll add this link as well. Hope this is useful.

Several of these are very interesting, especially the ones covering a battle/location never seen in later versions.
if I can get the necessary approvals I plan a Redux of some of them, cuz some things are out of whack

RE: Older scenarios
Silvanski,
This is true, or as Japlance put it one time "some are good and some are not so good." That thought brings me to this. How do you get the event editor to completely clear out old information when taking an old scenario and modifying it?
I shall explain. I am working on one that falls in the midrange of what Japlance referred to above. What I did was is to convert it from battalion size units to regiments. I did this as the scale isn't correct in terms of frontage and stacking. Anyway, I saved the map and the revised OOB as separate files. My idea was to combine the files as a new scenario and redo the event editor. When I did all of this I attempted to set the events I had in mind in what is an empty editor save for those defaults that come with a new scenario. When I did this the old information popped up for an opposing unit when I tried to set it for a unit to withdraw. There is a trick here I believe for one unit I was able to reset. Could you tell me what this trick is please?
I suspect this may be related to what JmLima wrote about above.

RE: Older scenarios
Here's a default event list. Change the '.txt' to '.evt', open your scenario and 'F7' to import the list. It still has the first seven default events.

I gave it a shot and it turns out I am wrong, so I need to go back to the well.
I took this information you provided PzAbt, (<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<EVENTS/>) and copied it to a text file that I renamed "yamashita.evt". This is the same name as the scenario I am reworking. I made a folder titled "Event Text Dumps" and placed the file there when my initial attempt to find the file itself failed. When I hit F7 I get a popup informing me the file can't be found. The folder is located with the WWII Asian scenarios. Would one of you tell me where I am making my mistake and how do I correct it, please?

RE: Older scenarios
try with putting the evt file in the same folder as your scenario

In addition to what Silvain says, I'm not sure you need to rename the file, just the file extension to '.evt'. You should be able to put the original file in any folder, and with your scenario open hit 'F7' and go find it.
Optionally, there may be just an issue with renaming file extensions on your computer. It may be easier for you to e-mail me, and I will send you the original file.

RE: Older scenarios
sPzAbt653, Silvanski,
The trick is not only changing the file name to .evt, but also using the proper drop down entry. When I saved it previously I saved it under "text" instead of "all files", not knowing any better. This time I saved it under "all files" and when I hit F-7 it not only loaded, but all the ghost entries were removed with the event editor reformatted with the fist seven events described by you, sPzAbt653.
As with most things that initially appear complicated in this game, it is usually something so simple as to be overlooked.
Many thanks to both of you for your assistance as I am no longer cursing the darkness, having had a candle lite for me.
One final question. There is a website titled "The evil event editor" or something like that. Do either one of you know if the information on it is still valid or with the various upgrades and changes TOAW had undergone it has been rendered obsolete?

Glad you got it straight! Now you have a beautiful clean event list, which to me is almost as good as a [edited for content].
Give us a link to the site you are referring to and we can check it out.

RE: Older scenarios
sPzAbt,
Sorry for this tardy response, but I've been out of town.
[/b]The correct name is "The Evil Ed" put out by the TOAW Design Group. I think that it has been taken offline, as a search revealed dead links. Anyway, I could have save myself the trouble because I discovered I had made a copy of it years ago. I'll see if I can look over it this weekend.
I wrote too soon about the event editor. While the old events were removed as noted above, when I finally got around to writing new commands to it they showed up again. The next step was to remove the original version and every reference to the it as well with the same results. I have some other ideals I'll try.
I'm going to shelve this project for the time being and later go after it again.
Thanks again for the assist.
