An bug or new tactics?

Post by Dream »

I found that one very powerful way to destory enemy unit.

First, divied your unit(with high readiness) into three, then do the minimize losses attack and order your artillery unit(as many as you can) do the ignore losser support.

This kind of attack only cost 10% of one turn. And the emery unit will suffer very high casualties and never retreat. So you can attack them 7-8 times per turn and finianly. The emery unit will evaporate. And the artillery unit are very powerful even in 1% supply

The requerment of tactics is Artillery unit(any range>1 unit,Navy, missile, but not Air unit). There are artillery unit in almost all scenario. So this scenario tactics works in almost all scenario.

I will post some image to show this tactics later

It's not a bug and definitively not new tactics. It's very old tactics.

Don't bother to post image. It's a well know phenomenon usually called "supply drain attacks" or "ant attacks".

This single subject has generated the biggest list of threads over the years.

Some players just don't use it while other do. I find it boring... and that's why I usually only play range 1 artillery scenarios which restrain those attacks.

I heard the "new patch team" is thinking a way to solve that matter.

Yep, I'm so glad that Ralph and his team are getting ready to solve this big and old problem eventually.

@Dream;

You may really wish to wait until after the new 3.4 patch befor you try these sort of 'tactics' on any 'pbem' player you wish to remain 'friendly' with....LOL!

Alternately, you may wish to work out which sort of play/or rules the two of you will use befor starting the game.

Much of this particular 'play' may depend on the scale of the scenario your playing, but it's nearly 'for sure' that if you use 'ant attks' on a pro, he'll 'bomb you into the stone age' without any regret at all, AND you'll be noted as 'gamey'.

Always a good thing to agree about any possible 'house rules' and/or 'rules interpretations' befor you hang your ass over the gulf, eh?

Especially if your thinking of playing on one of the 'Ladders'........[:D]

Thing is, there pretty much has to be either a house rule in the scenario or the players have to agree on one.

Reason is, what's an ant unit attack, and what's an unreasonable amount of supporting artillery? If it's left undefined, can I or can I not poke that regiment with one battalion set at 'minimize losses' and three battalions of artillery firing in support? (adjust until you find your own level of uncertainty).

One winds up with the game turning on nice points of moral scruple -- which is something I prefer to leave to non-TOAW areas of life. I prefer to simply have a defined rule. Ideally imposed by the system, but pending that, by house rule.

So am I! I wouldn't bother to wait longer for the new patch if this matter was to be solved, but I think we'll have to wait for the next one.
