List of Vehicles?

Post by Peter Fisla »

What AFVs are included in the game? Is there stuff like Tigers/Tigers II/ Panthers etcc...it would be cool to have different version of Pz IIIs so that stuff like 1940 could be played.

Thanks!

PS: I'm going get the game as soon as I get home...

I can't give a direct simple answer to your question.  The list of vehicles used in the game forcepools (ones you'll see playing the pre-made games and data) were intended to be historically accurate for Normandy from June 6 - 9, 1944.  Tigers and TigerII's were not in action for those 4 days.  However, data for those vehicles do exist in the data files even tho they were not used.  So you could mod-in the vehicles you asked about, that were not included, if you wanted to do that.

Here's a quick list of what was included on the German side:

Panthers (ausf A & G)
Panzer IV (ausf H, & C)
StuG III G
StuH42
JadgPanzer IV
Grille
Marder I
Marder III
SdKfz 251 variants
SdKfz 250 variants
Puma variants
PzFeldhaubitze
leSPW U304(f)
mSPW S303(f)
Captured tanks
Somua S-35
Hotchkiss H-39
Renault R-35
Char B2

Some of the list have command vehicle teams and SS variants.  All with period accurate camo or paint scheme.

Hey RD_Oddball,

Yeah I know that Tigers were N/A historically in the area between June 6 - 9 though it is nice  to have them available for scenario building or what if stuff. I was thinking of the Longest Day as a some sort of sand box, It could be cool to have say all the Axis/Allied vehicles from all CC games to play with, creating scenarios/campaigns.

Any Pz IIIs? I know CC1 had Pz IIIm in OOB...

RE: sandbox - Yeah would be cool to have a mod that made comprehensive list of vehicles available for scenario creation.  I'll keep in mind if someone is looking for ideas of mods to make. Thanks for the idea!

RE: Pz III's - No.  I was never able to find CC1 so I don't know the design and why they might have included them.  IIRC wasn't CC1 a generic WWII sim not necessarily focusing on one battle, op or campaign?

CC1 was historical sim, it covered area from the beach (ok actually off the beach) right up to St Lo. For me CC1 is the coolest one in the series :)

Pz.Ers.u.Ausb.Abt. 100 had at least one, but more likely three Pz IIIGs.

Also 21. Panzer had three Pz IIIMs (and one Befs PzIII) as part of the HQ company of Pz.Rgt. 22.
Plus another IIIM and Befs PzIII in the I. Battalion HQ company.

21. Panzer was a real unique division.....numerous weaponry mounted on captured French vehicles and tanks. I can provide a full list if you're interested.

Also missing is an oddball R-35 chassis mounting a 4.7 cm PAK 36 (t) which was used by 30. Schnelle Brigade.

Yes would love to see the list.  I can pass it on to Steve McClaire our programmer who did the data files.  I think he was aware of the panzer III's you mention but the quantity available vs. the likelyhood of being in action probably made him think they shouldn't go in.  I'm guessing tho.

We did get the R-35 variant you mentioned in there iirc.  That sounds really familiar from when Gen_Jack was doing the vehicle graphics and communicating with me about his progress.  I can check for sure if you want to know.  I suppose it might go by a different name.  Is that possible?  Any nicknames for it that you're aware of?

Here's an excellent .pdf file I uploaded to my site that'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know about 21. Panzer in June '44.

I hope it can be of use.[8D]

The Panzer Lehr had 3 Tiger I in its Funk company. No one knows for sure if they actually saw combat but adding like two of them might be a nice goodie ;)

I'll see what Steve thinks.  I know he considered the vehicles that appeared in low numbers in his data design so it's up to him whether to change the logic or not.  Maybe it'd be a good addition (Tigers and III's) at the lowest level difficulty level.  IIRC he reserved the upper difficulty levels for the spartan, likely historically accurate, forcepools.  Factoring in the likelyhood of seeing combat at such low numbers and factoring in any abstractions dictated by the CC engine and build design.  He could answer better on this so will ask.

My pleasure!

I've amassed a huge amount of info about the Normandy invasion over the last year or so to do a mod for John Tiller's Campaign Series. (which is on the back burner for now.)

Need anything....just holler!
I'd love to see Becker's "funnies" included in this game.

RE the Panzer IIIs.
I know at least one was knocked out by the paras at Pegasus Bridge....and I seem to remember they were in CC5.
