Something funky going on...

Post by Peter Fisla »

I'm playing Caen scenario as German. I have a German HT 251/2 that has Mortar and MG, out of 7 soldiers of the vehicle 1 is dead. Sometimes when I give a fire order to the crew the mortar and the MG weapons will simply disappear from from the solider monitor window and the "no weapon" will be displayed for for all soldiers on the vehicle....it's really strange...if I sometimes reissue the fire order the weapons come back to the soldier monitor window. I have seen something similar with 251/9 vehicle.

See the first image (top) notice that only mortar is present...the second image (bottom) shows also MG present...this is all in the same scenario. I also had instance where this vehicle simply didn't have any weapons sown in the soldier monitor window.

Ok thanks for the detail Peter.  We'll look into it.  I'll see if there's an explanation I can offer immediately that will identify this as a weird side effect of the psych model or a bug.

I see it alot in CC:WaR.

When a crew member manning the weapon becomes pinned or worse....the weapon disappears.

I think it's the crew taking cover in the vehicle but that's an assumption on my part.  So when they take cover their weapon is no longer available to use so rather than a confusing situation where you can see their weapon but they won't fire it, it just goes away.  CC has always been set up with that specific set of graphics about soldier states.  I think the logic is that if you see suppressed or cowering that would be the key bit of communiction telling you what is going on.

*edit*
Sorry said the same thing as Juggalo. The more I think about it the more I think that is what's going on. What kind of fire were they taking?

I haven't seen this before at least it wasn't there during the Atomic Games days of Close Combat. If you ask me the weapon icon should stay...it doesn't matter if crew is pinned or not. If a infantry soldier is pinned you don't hide is rifle or other weapon either ,so I don't quite follow.  Anyways if you guys can take a look and ask the developer it that would great, I will keep on playing and keep an eye out on this to see if I can collect more information.

Sure thing.  Looking into it now to be sure we're right.  Will post back soon.

*EDIT*

Was talking with the programmer and he verified that any gun exposed to fire will temporarily abandon it to take cover then reoccuupy it when they feel it is safe enough. This will happen when the soldier is pinned or worse and dependent upon him passing a morale check.

I did discover however that the mortar has an incorrect value for "exposed to fire?" and we'll fix it.

I think it's the difference between a personal weapon and a crewed weapon.

I agree with Andrew.  The crewed weapon you can step away from and return to it.  A rifle you can't unless you throw it on the ground.  Then you're going to get shot or become a POW. [:D]

What i think:

The mortar is under fire and the crew was not expecting to be hence;

The first screen shot shows Bacher manning the mortar but he is pinned and so Osterberg assisting with the mortar.

The second screen shot shows shows Bacher loading the mortar and Osterberg manning the vehicle's machine gun.

I would guess the remainder of the crew is in a state of shock and in no state to man the machine gun.

My guess too.  Probably sounds like a clothes dryer full of bowling balls in that thing.[:D]  I think I'd be inclined to duck too.  But as I mentioned there was a setting that needs changed.  The mortar is set to be "exposed to fire" and shouldn't be.
