Brand noob with ?'s

Post by IronWarrior »

When creating a TF, the auto-select ships doesn't work. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong since it appears that others are able to do it. Is there something I need to do to get the computer to start chosing the TF, like assign the first/flag ship? something else?

The tutorial says there is a beginners, intermediate and advanced, but when I start it up there are no choices. It doesn't seem like much of a tutorial, more like a trial and error practice ground with no tips or pointers to get started. Where can I choose the difficulty level for the tutorial?

Did I patch the game correctly? I went from the setup version of 1.5 to the comprehensive 1.804 then to 1.806.

Thanks for any help!

That should be the correct patch sequence.

IronWarrior,
I've never used the auto-select and I just had a go and I can't get it to work, so I'm not sure if it works or not[&:][&:]

You are correct to presume there is not much of a tutorial. The "tutorial" is more of a jump in and get your feet wet kind of thing. Play around and ask questions and there will be plenty of answers.
I guess the level they are referring to is game options -> AI difficulty. 3 levels.

Yes you have patched correctly iirc.

Excellent, thanks for the answers... certainly I will prefer to manually create TF's, but when something doesn't work like described, it drives me nuts. [:D]

I would quit WITP now then if you want to keep your sanity.

Someone should write a "Real" manual

Auto select for a TF doesn't work; I've got all the upgrades and never had it function.  But, if you go crazy when things don't act like they're supposed to, you've got a visit to the insane asylum already in your future if you keep playing this game.

Hint: ignore the auto convoy function and put all your subs on manual control...

It helps if you just go ahead, turn nutty. You will probably enjoy the game more, and also fit in quite well here.

Click on everything a few hundred times and it will all become clear as mud in a mere few score hours of play [:D]

Consider me as an example: I've owned WiTP since probably about 2005. I've NEVER played in a PBEM (still don't 'understand' it well enough); I've never finished a grand campaign (though did beat the Japanese AI in Coral Sea scenario a few times); and I've never played it for more than about six months at a time (so much work to play just one turn that, playing a couple months of turns and you get burned out! [:D]).

Nonetheless, I love this game! And after fiddling with it off and on, and reading these forums, and asking questions, etc., over all those years, I'd say I "know how to play it." I got up to mid to late 1943 against teh Jap AI once or twice on Hard difficulty and I was just creamin' 'em.

Just reinstalled it today and will see how long I can get in an RHS campaign before AE comes out.

There is a separate pdf with the Tutorial instructions. It can be accessed from the pre-Game menu. What you do is to start the tutorial up in head-to-head mode and then follow the instructions in the pdf.

Thanks again for the replies and the help. I'm sure it would only take a slight nudge to help me lose the rest of whatever is left of my sanity. [;)]

Of course that makes you lot "enablers" doesn't it? [:D]
