Internal Debate

Post by KG Erwin »

I am about to close out my second season as a GBG manager, and one year is left on my contract. My "character" is a retired Marine Captain, and "next year" is 1941. I'm already wondering how to continue in this role-playing format, as I may be asked to return to active duty.

I may be unique in taking the immersion level to a cross-gaming format, or else I'm just being silly in even thinking of it. What scares me is that I'm really thinking of what my manager character (an alter ego, I suppose) will do once Dec 7, 1941 happens.

My idea is to quit PS after 1941, move to SPWaW for a 1942-1945 Pacific campaign, and then return to PS in 1946 (IF I survive the war)[X(]. In the meantime, I could sim out the 1942-45 baseball years.

Is this a crazy idea, or can it work?

Oh, well, I'm just tossing around ideas that come from my overactive imagination. [:D]

I think it sounds like fun, though I think you might experience Puresim withdrawal while playing any other games.

I think its cool. Just a harmless escape into your hobby. These things can turn into a good story/book if you are so inclined.

It reminded me of a high school moment...about a hundred years ago or so.  I had to write a story about anything I wanted for a school project and I was DEEP into my Squad Leader days with those boards stacked with counters hiding under my bed hoping my mom's vacuum doesn't wipe out my left flank. So I wrote a story about a company of GIs that had to take hill 621 from the Germans based on the way the game played out.  The central character's squad was KIA'd going up the hill and the story stopped right there.  The teacher thought I showed imagination for killing the main character off (Sgt. May?) but little did he know that it was the dice that wrote the ending, not me!

Why, I do believe I remember a squad leader scenario called Hill 621.

Yeah the 621 scenario was really between the Russians and Germans but I plugged in Americans instead.
