No trespassing in Trevieres?

Post by xe5 »

Custom 1 day/3 map op.
June 6th; Longueville (major US depot), Trevieres, Surrain (minor Ger depot)
2 BGs: 505/82 vs. 795 Ost on Longueville
Playing as US, the 505th takes the 'to Trevieres' exit VL in the night battle.
In the next strat turn the 505th cant advance to Trevieres.

Warum nicht?

I would think you need to control the map first

TLD Manual, p.55:
Battle Groups on uncontested maps may move along any connecting road.
On maps that are of mixed control, you may only move along roads for which you hold the victory locations.

Im thinking it may be a bug related to section 17.6 (Retreat)..."Battle Groups that retreat, can’t move on the following strategic turn."

You should be able to move off Longueville to Trevieres if you control the "To Trevieres" VL on Longueville even if you don't control the entire map.  Please attach the game file so we can figure out what's going on?  One version at the point in the Op where your movement is stuck and a fresh unplayed version would be ideal.

Zip attached (rename from .txt to .zip) iincludes the 'fresh' scenario file from Games/Battles and saved file from Games/Save.

The same problem also applies to the default 82nd AB Op. In the second Strat turn (between the 6/6 Night turn and Turn 1) the US AB BGs cant move to maps for which they hold the Exit VLs to on their initial maps. Beginning to look like the issue involves all US AB BGs trying to move off contested maps in Strat turn 2.

Also, if you edit the attached 'fresh' scenario file and replace 795 Ost with the WN5 BG, then fight the 6/6 night battle as US, ending w/ Longueville remaining contested, WN5 *disappears* from the strat and tac maps!

edit - just ran thru the night turn in a new TLD GC and only the 502/101 AB BG cant move to a map to which it holds the exit VL (the 'to Exit 2' VL on St Germaine in this case, which was also the US deploy VL). So maybe the issue is confined to the AB BG involved in the first battle of an Op/Camp.

Ok thanks for that xe5.  We'll have a look at what you suggested.  If the error you were seeing was using different BG's with the same maps perhaps it could be a BTD error as well.  i.e. there's no reciprocating connection on Trevieres to the Longueville "to Trevieres" VL.

No, different BGs on different maps; custom Op and default GC.
So far the common factors are: AB BGs involved in the first 6/6 night battle.

I wonder if it was related to the fix in WAR to stop BG's on the 1st turn of an operation from just advancing off a disputed start map? Might be since WAR did not have a night turn the rule still might be getting enforced on the 1st day turn....

Tejszd, your theory sounds plausible. I had the same "problem" while playing a quick Op against the AI due to a temporary lack of HI on the German side. The question is now: "bug or feature?" [:)] Any word on this yet?
