How do I build camps?

Post by ftgcritt2 »

Just bought the game yesterday and I've read a great deal in these forums about how I should build camps to reinforce my troops. However, I cannot find anything in the manual about how to build them. Also, I can't seem to get the hang of detailed combat. The tutorial is almost completely useless, and the manual isnt much better. How do I select units? At what point does the orders phase end and the movement phase begin? Is there any way to minimize the chances of a unit misinterpreting my commands? Thanks

a) Congrats on a great buy (atleast IMO)
b) You need to go into the cities and click to buy a building. Camps is towards the bottom of the list.
c) Aye @ manual [;)]. Well it takes some practice to get a hang on, but just keep trying. I had to play a few games before being able to do well myself.
d) Do you mean in detailed combat? You do not get to chose what unit to move when, they act in turn, A unit ready to act will have a brigther color around its base.
e) They tend to do so less as their morale increase, but it will still happen, and usually at the worst possible time (but that goes without telling I guess [:D])

ftgcritt2,
For "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" we developed ten tutorial videos, one of which is on detailed combat. Since the two games are based on the same engine you might find it helpful to watch that video, which is one of the three posted by Matrix in the products info area, since it's easier to learn by watching than reading the manual again.)

As for camps, terje439 is right about how to build them, but is it possible that you're playing the "Basic" game, in which case there are no camps to be built?

You're far from the first to have asked this question, which is why I suspected it. In retrospect, it would have been good for the manual to have a prominent note on this, but we didn't anticipate the need. (Camps are the only "advanced" building new players always want to build.)
