Total War
After a successful total war, is the defeated nation wiped off the map forever, or does it lose everything but retain its capital, and become a one province nation forever? I've never been good enough (or, never got far enough into COG1...) to finish any total wars in COG1. Thanks.

RE: Total War
it will basicly be gone, there may be a few Leaders or troops running around/ships, but they have no Nation, or effect
so, if you got to Total War with Spain (good luck) and win, then all of Spain nows belongs to you
(now, I know I have done it, but don't remember if the other testers went too far into the Total War side of things (during Tests, I took Prussia, Spain, England, Sweden and the Ossites, was never in a postion or need to try out Russia or Turkey, but they should work)
one thing to watch for, is to make sure any and all Islands are taken before you try for it

But? I thought you had to declare Total War upfront, at the start of hostilities.
How could you "make sure any and all islands are taken before you try it [declaring total war]?"

RE: Total War
what I am saying is, if Spain owns a number of the Islands, make sure you get them/break Spains control over them, before you start your Total War, as you will need to take them if you don't, and you are going to be tied down in Spain
Most Total Wars are not declared, stright out, most times they are after a Nation has been weakened
(I am not sure if France could take Spain out in a Total War, if declared on the first turn of most Campaigns (where they are not already Allied))
so basicly, all things being concidered, Total War is not a choice to be made lightly, besides planning, is there really a need for it
(the Path of Nappy Campaign is one, where you have to, it is part of the goal)

So none of the islands are categorized as "home turf" eh? (well with the obvious exception of Great Britain!)

Not entirely true HS. They still have an effect.
Unfortunately, due to the game system, the AI will still try to make coalitions against the player, and will sometimes include the nation defeated in a total war. This then voids the proposed coalition as the conquered nation cannot accept/decline the diplomatic deal offered [:(]

Seem to recall Eric saying this was going to get worked out in a next patch.

Yup believe I read somethign like that myself. But at the moment a conquered nation can still make a difference...

RE: Total War
Why don't their troops, leaders etc disappear after they get totally defeated? You can't declare war on them anymore, so you'll just have ghosts wandering the map? Also, what happens to their colonies? Britain has lots of colonies, let's say I win a total war against it. Will the half dead, half alive Britain have lots of colonies that nobody can take because you can't demand it in a treaty?

RE: Total War
So can you escalate to total war during a regular war? That is interesting.
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest

I thought the answer to that was no?

RE: Total War
I don't know Anthropoid. I just glanced over the text. I would really like total war to be something one can "escalate" to.
However, I feel the whole concept of total war and the way it is used in COG:EE is a bit out of place. However, that hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the game.

no, you may of misread or read something into what was said
you have to declare Total War at the start
(which is why I said to be sure to take all Islands before declaring Total War, earlier wars or what not)

RE: Total War
I just finished a total war in COG. Prussia is wiped off the map but Prussian troops are still wandering around the map, picking fights with me. Quite odd.
Turkey is also at war with Prussia, which means I cannot declare war on Turkey. Since Prussia doesn't exist, there can never be peace between France and Prussia or Turkey and Prussia....so that means France will never be able to declare war on Turkey?!

RE: Total War
there were bugs with Total War in CoG, took alot of work to get them cleaned out
Prussia and Sweden were the two of the worse
if you can fight them, kill them off, that should get the game to clean itself up, normally when I did it, there wern't any troops left over
other then that ?
maybe do some diplo with Turkey, get them to drop the war, kind of HARD though

RE: Total War
Yeah I hope there is some way the way the game cleans up a faction defeated in total war can be improved. I noticed a couple weird things when I defeated Prussia in a total war as well. Luckily I didnt have any weirdness with war declarations the way you describe.
The no war with someone at war with your enemy rule doesnt make any sense to me anyways, but oh well.

My suspicion is because of trying to code how battles would be fought if there were three armies in the same province at war with each other.
A vs B
A vs C
B vs C
Would you have one battle with multiple armies? Multiple battles? Who fights first since each has two enemies present? Now imagine if there were more than 3 enemy armies at war with one another (and figure in allies at some point… ) I think the intent of the rule was to keep it simple but still playable.
I’d love to see this worked out somehow though. I’ve gotten a little annoyed having to wait months to DOW someone because of this limitation. But it’s not a game stopper

RE: Total War
Now in my COG game the "enforced peace" with Prussia expired, and Prussia has no provinces but some troops wandering around Europe. I get a box allowing me to declare war on them for trespassing, so I do that. One turn later, "insurrectionists" (from where?) force them to surrender. I have 9500 treaty points but can't ask for much, seeing as they have no provinces...

RE: Total War
you'll get a little bit of money, either try to kill off the troops, or just forget about them
I had that happen with both the ossites and Prussia, I took them out

RE: Total War
Just finished a total war on Turkey as France. Took everything they had, now the total war is over but they somehow still have Silistra and Morocco even though I had occupied those. Now I declare total war on them again and next turn I am still at peace. Repeat, same thing. Declare regular war the next turn and occupy everything. Now I get to demand Silistra and Morocco and demand they liberate West Egypt so I can take that. Turkey is left with the other Moroccan province I had no border with...most strange.
