Red Storm Rising
I loved this book! I read it so much that the pages finally sarted falling out. My regret is that no one ever made a gae that covered the whole topic. There was that submarine game of the same name (pretty lackin by today's standards) then there was Harpoon which covered the naval end in more detail. But I have always wanted a good "what if" game that could cover ALL aspects of a Cld War gone HOT game. Air, sea, and land like a Pac War meets War in Russia set in the 1980's. That would be a blast to play. Especially of done like UV or WitP is being done.

A few days ago, there was a thread in the UV forum on a possible remake of North Atlantic 86 - an old Gary Grigsby Apple II wargame. Since UV is a remake of Guadalcanal Campaign, WITP of PacWar ... and the possible Med Game a Bomb Alley remake - why not NA 86 ?
However, it does not seem to be a priority for 2by3 games but who knows ?

I was mad when the Phalanx gun on the carrier was unable to choose between two identical targets, so it shut down and shot neither.
I was mad when the Alpha was sitting on the bottom and sank the crippled American sub (along with one of the good subs.)
I was mad the way the cease-fire came about. It should have happened on the Vistula or Bug IMHO.
I read it post 9-11. The first chapter was more like fact than fiction now.
Seems like Clancy's modern war in the Atlantic closely chronicles the war in the Pacific '41 - '42. Iceland = Philippines

Maybe Clancey should run for President. Always seems to have a grip on things before they happen. The liberals would NEVER vote for him though. LOL too consevative. Maybe Grigsby and Co. could be talked into a new 1980's NATO versus Warsaw Pact game.

Hi
I've read that book five times. I love it!:) I also played Red Storm Rising and at the time I played it quite much and really enjoyed it. It was for the C-64 and I had the tape version (2 of them in the box). Those were the days.

I give credit where credit is due....I really believe Larry Bond wrote most of RSR (given that Clancy has yet to be able to replicate the kind of realistic, overarching story that made the book one I've read about 500 times (worn out two copies of the book - wife bought me the hard back version just so it'll last longer).
If you read Larry Bond's Vortex or Red Phoenix you'll see the similarities in the writing style.

Yes, Larry Bond's tabletop Harpoon game was used in Red Storm Rising to simulate the Soviet Cruise missile attack on the CVBG. They incorporated the results into the book. The old DOS Harpoon games were great for their time, and the newest tabletop version is wonderful. I've been waiting eagerly for H4 to come out.

Sorry for stepping on any toes Matrix, but there's no other game being developed like it right now.
There are scenarios from the cold war 80s to present in it. Check it out!

Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Maybe Grigsby and Co. will hear this plea for a 1980's wargame based on the same premise as WitP. Since we know all the tech that was developed and when they could do a great production model.

Clancy and Bond were the two authors that made me read in english (just no fun reading Clancy in French).Originally posted by thantis

However, if Bond wrote some of clancy's books, he must have stopped 'cause clancy's books are now boring. (one man against all to save the universe... no surprise hollywood made him into American Hero Harrisson Ford Boy Scout).
best regards.

I thought Rainbow Six rocked. The Bear and the Dragon was also pretty awesome. (That would make a good game as well). However, Debt of Honor and that other one (war with Iran/Iraq) needed to be less preachy and much shorter. The conflict stuff was good, but all the political BS just got tedious.
