RE: A base too far

Post by RUPD3658 »

Recons now show 4 units at Dadjangas up from 2 for the last few turns. Still only 8K troops so I suspect new units may be getting flown in. LRCAP has been sent to investigate. I am choosing to bombard here and avoid the CD guns at Davao

Return to the PI!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Para drop took Dadjangas in advance of the main landing, which will arrive a day late. The MSWs have cleared the mines and the paras took the base so Mac can triumphantly wade ashore without getting shot at next turn. 3 road construction battalions and a base force were driven out by the new para brigade. The 2 weeks of contsant shore bombardment probably helped too.

I am hoping that I shut down most of the AFs in the area. Manilla is within Zero range but that is the only big base that I have not banged up. Hopefully my CVs along with LRCAP from Talud Island can repell any major strike.

Recons are reporting CVs and BBs at Seorabaja so I think Gordon may make a move on Maccasar.

September 1st, 1943. A confident General MacArthur wades ashore and looks into the camera waiting there for him. Having lost his notes he decides to wing it. He remebers that he wants to say something about returning to the PI. He looks directly into the camera and ......

Mac: "Lafayette, we have returned!"

Film crew director: "Cut!. Mac baby...Pershing already used that line. Try again"

Mac: "Return to sender..address unknown"

Film crew director: "Catchy but not what we are going for here"

Mac: "No returns without receipts?"

Film crew director: "Cut!"

Mac: "Return of the Jedi?"

Film crew director: Mac baby keep it short and to the point.

Mac "I have returned!"

Still no reaction to the PI landings. The suspense is killing me.

River crossing enduced shock attacks at Cotabato should take the base next turn.

It is suprizingly quiet. I have withdrawn the CVs in the AI and ordered shock attacks by the LCUs. I feel very uncomfortable sticking around much longer with the KB unaccounted for.

Bum rush took Cotobato and shock attacks took Attu and Kiska.

The plan in the PI is to swing north and take Cayagan then push the survivors into a final battle at Davao. The resaoning is that my troops are prepped for Davao, it involves 1 less river crossing, and I can bombard Davoa with TFs. It should laso make any last minute evacuations by Japan harder to do.

The march to Cayagan has begun.

In the north the withdrawl of my CVs cost me an AP to a long range Betty strike. Fighters have been moved in to provide cover for the unloading transports. Hopefully the mopping up won't take too long

Jap troops have bugged out of Davao and are headed towards Cayagan. Looks like that is where the final battle will take place.

Jap bombardment TF has been spotted 4 hexes out of Manilla. I have a feeling that my troops on the road to Cayagan are going to get a visit next turn. Hopefully my LBA will fly against these ships in spite of the T-storms.

My CVs have been sent to raid Brunei. A TF has been spotted in port so they are going to pull up next to Taraka and fly across Borneo.

CV raid did not fly due to weaher. We will try again today. I don't think my CVs have been spotted yet.

Jap BBs never showed up but 7 Alfs luanch a strike against my MSWs at Tarakan from the Brunei area so they may be moving west.

I got suckered into a Cap trap at Truk again. I keep forgetting to set the escorts range long enough to make it to Truk. If Gordon stuck around there should be a naval and air battle there next turn.

Bloody day but I got the better of it. Air losses were about 210 Jap for 170 Allied. The P-38s and Hellcats did well but the P-40Ns did not and took the bulk of the losses. For some reason my Brit Corsairs and Hellcat IIs did not escort the raid on Brunei so losses were a bit higher than expects. Overall I am happy with the reseuls since it gained some experience for my CV air crews and killed or wounded a number of Gordon's top pilots.

Landing at Tarakan next turn. Hopefully the sacrificial acts by my MSWs at Jolo and Tawi Tawi have consealed my true intentions at Tarakan.

Ships losses were 4 Jap DDs and 8 AKs for 1 Allied CL.

RE: Return to the PI!

Post by RUPD3658 »

Took Davao but a surface raid at Kiska broke through and sank an ML and some transports. I will likely lose 2 DDs but sank and equal number. Hopefully my subs can pick off a ship or two on their way home.

Shaock attack from the landing force at Tarakan plus an airdrop their for next turn are planned. Hopefully this coupled with a series of bombardments will take the base. I feel exposed leaving my CVs there too long.
