Battle group size

Post by Tomcat »

Is there a file that can be modded so that I can change the number of squads in a battle group? For instance, rangers are only allowed up to 12 squads. Can I change a file and increase that to 15?

That's a feature in CCTLD...limited units due to smaller BG sizes (ie: Company sized BG).
You need the workbook...then you need to edit the FPools.txt and BGroups.txt. Modify the "-1" values (from the Team Type and Team Class columns) and assign active teams to replace the "-1" data from the Teams.txt files.
I guess a screenshot of the data files might explain this better [;)]

Tomcat have a look at this link. In the very bottom right hand corner there is a copy of the workbook. Opens with a spreadsheet program.

*EDIT*

Doh! Sorry.[:D]

RD_Oddball, maybe I'm not seeing it, but I can't find the link you mentioned to the workbook.

I guess I'm still a bit clueless. I want to change the 2nd Ranger Bn to be able to have 15 squads in a battlegroup, but I can't seem to find which file to mod for this. Any suggestions? I'm guessing that 1 file will do it.

I will give you a quick and dirty novice answer, if you go into your bgroups.txt file, default location C:\Matrix Games\Close Combat The Longest Day\DATA\BASE
If you know how to backup a file up by copying it do that first then open file with Notepad or a spreadsheet program in text format. Scan down till you see 2nd Ranger Bn, after that you will a bunch of numbers, follow these number across till u come to -1 -1 -1 the last 3 numbers you will see just before the next BGgroup 38 / 2nd Infantry. Change those to something like 10 36 36. Then save file in text format.
How this effects Campaign or H2H not sure, but that will open those 3 last slots in single games maybe campaign not sure.

Make backups before editing or replacing files!

Yes very simple. In the BGroups sheet in that workbook you'll find one rows entry the 2nd Ranger Battalion (or similar naming). Look across the column and you'll find a series of "-1" values. Changing those to the allowable team types you want to add will activate those slots. AFAIK[:D] I've not actually done it yet. As I've mentioned Steve McClaire did our data in addition to the programming. There might be other tweaks you'd need to make. Also it'll take you a bit of studying to learn the team types but it's pretty basic. I forget what column it's in in the AlsTeams sheet but if you look at each column's header just about all the info/clues you'd need are there.

When you're done you'll need to copy out the data portion of the workbook to save as a <gamefilename>.txt file. Open one of the teams text files in the game data>base folder. You'll see what parts you need to take out. Basically just the data fields. NOT the column headers. If this needs more explanation post back here and one of us will answer.

As long as you're backing up your files it won't hurt to experiment. The worst that would happen is the game crashes and you either know what you did wrong or you have to replace your original file and start over. HINT: it helps to edit one value at a time at first until you get more comfortable with the process of modding.

Good luck! Have fun!
