Where's the Fine Manual?

Post by Possum »

Hello.
I've just received my copy of Uncommon Valour, And thought I'd read the manual befor doing anything, but where is it?
There is no printed manual. So it must be a PDF file on the CD... Wrong!
I've just looked in every folder on the CD but no PDF, TXT, DOC or anything vaugely like a manual.
So what am I missing here?
"We're having a war, and we want you to come!"
So the pig began to whistle and to pound on a drum.
"We'll give you a gun, and we'll give you a hat!"
And the pig began to whistle when they told the piggies that.

Mate,

I don't think you will find any manual on the CD. A PDF file called UV_MAP~1.PDF (close enough) should be sitting in your main UV directory after the install. Double clicking on that should bring it up (it is also accessable as an option in the games front end screen). If you still can't see it then buggered if I know.

It is on the entry page....where it says Game Manual...if that is what you are looking for ...130 pages on Acrobat Reader...
While not disgruntled he was far from gruntled....

You mean I MUST install the game FIRST!
What sort of a concept is that!

How am I supposed to review the install Instructions if I have to install the game to read them!
Talk about catch-22!
More Importantly, how am I supposed to read/print the manual when I'm at work? I cannot Install the game on my work machine
and I do not have a printer on my home machine.

You could copy the file onto a separate CD and bring it to work that way. If you do not have a CD copier then I think the manual is small enough to zip it then copy it to a floppy.

I installed the game at home

Then copied the manual to a CD

Then went to work and printed it out

When you print it:

Just print one page as a test. there is a big black "UV" in the middle of the page. Make the settings to high quality print and the big black "UV" goes away.

Print it in colour if you can.

A mistake...

It was intended to have the manual available separately on the CD, no installation required. Unfortunately, this slipped through the final installation process, so you'll need to install to get access to the manual. Since the installation is fairly automated and the start menu has a link to the manual, it should be easy for you to get to this point. Apologies for any inconvenience.

I just e-mailed it to myself at work. Printed it there on the big Ricoh. If you're having this much trouble with the manual, this complex game might not be for you...........:D

It zips to less than 5mb if I remember correctly. So you could also get it on a few floppies......to take to work :D

Winzip will span a file over multiple floppies.

A work-around

I ran into the same problem (no admin rights on my PC at work) but there is an easy work-around, if your work PC has got a CD-ROM drive: just run the installer as you would at home. The files do get copied to the hard disk of your work machine, including the manual, it's just that you can't run them. You can then open Adobe Acrobat which is usually installed on any work PC and open the manual with it and print it. Worked for me.
