Turkey Rocks!

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Turkey Rocks!

Post by 06 Maestro »

I just had to share my joy at getting into 3rd place with Turkish Empire. This is my 4th attempt with that country-the previous ones were dismal failures, but I think I am getting the hang of it. I set this one to the 23 year campaign-and have already stopped (helped anyway) the Austrians from racing ahead for a usual quick win.

After a few years the initial fracas was over with France. Then Austria started getting into one war after another. It reached a point to where I felt safe to join a coalition against them. Turkey was just starting to build corps and the units were not even up to full strength. There was not enough money to build enough depots on the way to central Austria-no matter; the Army moved (with some nasty attrition losses. I was fairly certain the Austrian Empire was not going to hold out against everyone-and I wanted my piece of the pie.

The rules require a certain amount of battle losses to fully participate in acquiring the spoils of war-so I went for it. I got badly beaten in Vienna, but before I had retreated back to Belgrade they surrendered. How sweet it was. Turkey will get about 2300 units of money spread out over a year and one province!

Turkey now has money, Glory-and is actually in 3rd place. Prussia and Russia have just gone to war. Turkey is allied to Prussia-not sure what to do. I love this; the British "don't like us very much"-nor do the Prussians or French, but Turkey is now allied to all 3. I'm "eyeballing" Russia.[;)] Its early 1797.

Good show. In COG I remember I had to build myself up to 3 armies (each with 1 corps attached) of 100,000+ each before I was comfortable angering both Austria and Russia.

Northern Italy, if you can get to it, is a money basket.

I was asked before how I would fair against the Grands, I had already beaten them once, but just as I said that, I was DOW by France

was going to do a short AAR on that battle, but too much complaining, so didn't

but, the AI is getting nasty on me now

was at war with Spain, peace across the rest of the board, but didn't want to get into a major war with Spain, supply line would be too long, and Spain has my Navy bottled up in Norway (think my Navy is worse then my Irr Cav)

so only got my Brandenburg Troops in action in Spain, causing a mess, when France DOW me

a few months to get into place, and then I close in, take Piedmount, and pull out of Spain and mess up the Western coast of France, take some land, and get ready for the Grand battle with the Grands, only, they March on me, a mistake, one of the Grands (the weaker one) starts the battle, the 2nd one comes in as reinforcements, but, I am able to split them up, and wear them out, I take 7 Arty from the Grands !, and trap some Inf and Cav, 14 Divs surrender (I lost a Arty, but took it back, also)

then, march on Paris, the Grands are less then half strength now, very Heavy in Cav, weak in Arty and Inf, it was a short battle, and the Grands are driven out of Paris

then Russia DOW on me, I got two simi weak Corps in Poland, have to use them to hassle the Russian, while my other wars end

France don't want to give up, and even moves into my lands, but so did I, I lost a gun, they lost most of there troops, but on there retreat, take Flanders (Grrr) I fight about 3 more actions with what is left of the Grands, had a very even 56,000 vs 52,000 battle, but they are not what they were, and get hammered and hammered, think less then 20,000 made it out

then Spain landed in NA

the Ossites are trying to force a war on me, they marching troops in my backlands, but I can't complain, they won't back down, and I got nothing in the area, to do anything about it yet

then Prussia DOW on me

got two Armies headed there way, France is done, they just don't admit it yet

my Brandenburggers are headed back towards Spain (really would like to give them some rest, they short some 30,000 men, from when they started out, only troops I got that do not need extra support, everybody else moves like a pack of loscust)

(sometimes the new patch is a pain, I had trapped most of the Spanish Navy, but the slipped away from port, trapped the French Navy and it got away also, I need those ships, well, needed)

figures, finally started to make some money again, and got two new wars to mess with

errrr

I count 6 Arty, 6 Cav and 2 Inf Captured from the first battle, think I took two Arty from the 2nd battle, lost one, but think I got it back

how to lose a war in a afternoon, the new scoring system, keeps France in the War

Russia is marching toward my Cap, I am chasing with some Corps, and pulling my Garrisons out and marching to the sound of battle

a good little battle

caught the lead Russian Army, with a mix-match battle group, some inf and Cav, vs some Cav, 2 Guns and a Heavy gun

the Russians made good use of the woods, but what helps you in the woods, is also what hurts you in the woods

I win, and take the Heavy, I do a side capture and took the other gun, but it is sitting in the POW camp

I think all of those hidden Garrison troops I had left behind, fooled the AI into thinking I was undefended

Spain wins it's seige in the NA, I am chasing the Prussian, but moving on his Cap also

the wars have broken my food supply, my people are dieing, no more POWs

How did you capture so many French divisions? Did you do it in detailed battle or after the pursuit phase they surrender to you?

During battle

I try to throw my horns out and then press the enemy into the middle of the Horns

(ahhh, toss my Cav out to form a pocket, and then try to tighten it, using Terrian to form bottlenecks where I can)

LOL
you about right, I even got a full Army with 3 corps with nothing but Cav (some guns too)

the Turks make a lot of Cav

(to be honest, I am more of a Inf man myself, give me some grunts with some Arty support and I am happy)

lets see

after the Russian battle, I basicly slaughtered the Russians remains, the Prussians marched close to my Cap, but were taking heavy forging losses, so gave it up, then I have chased them back to the Ossites

Sweden and the Ossites have joined the war, been trying to make friends with the English, but they want 2000 bucks (if i had the money, i wouldn't make the deal)

that Army Prussia sent south was a mistake, I routed the 80,000 defending Berlin, and sacked the city

I am about to finish off that Army, and will march into Vennia and battle the combined Prussian/Ossite Armies

not sure what Sweden is doing ?

got a good Province from France, 6 courts, and took a good production province, 6 factories and 6 barracks (so they even out)

and got 25 colonies from France

I am resting my Bandonburggers, I didn't know I had bled them that white, most of my Inf were smaller then my Arty units (and my Arty was weak !)

but I am making some money finally, but I need food
