We are still working on it. I'm going to send you a PM in a sec to ask a couple of specific questions.

RE: Error Code 18
Hia Goolie,
What version of Vista are you using, I had the same error in testing for a while and have had it with various versions of CC, CoI, WaR and TlD.
It occured on Vista, both 32 and 64 bit (what I am using now) I went to the root CC directory, re-entered the serial, set the game to run in win XP SP 2 mode with admin privs and turned off visual effects. This seemed to do the trick. The serial change worked with WaR and the other changes fixed the other 2 versions. LMK how you get on and I will see what I can do mate.
Cheers - Shaun

Thanks for the help Shaun. I know this is being worked on by Greg and Steve too so it might be good to co-ordinate with them as well.

I am also having the same issue. I am using vista. game installed ok with serial number but gives error code 18 when I try to run it. At first I could not even get to the game menu. autorun would just hang then I turned off xp service pack 2 compatability and the game menu loads, but I get the error 18 message. My other matrix games work fine on this computer, WITP, Hired guns, Advance tactics. Thank you for looking into this. Kevin

RE: Error Code 18
Can anyone assist with the "Error 18"? I just purchased the game on 5/31/09 via digital download. Installation was successful but I am unable to launch the game. I get the "Error 18" message. Also as someone mentioned above several copies of "ccnormanrez" (or similar) are running on task manager slowing my pc down. I'm on Vista Home Basic 6.0 SP1. DxDiag is attached.
Please help, Matrix Games. Thanks.

Try launching the game whilst holding down "ctrl"..this launches the options menu. Disable videos to make it work.
I also find that running the game windowed makes it more stable.

RE: Error Code 18
I thought I'd post the resolution of my Error 18 issue for future forum reference...Until Intel updates their graphics card drivers, playing on my laptop is out of the question. The game works fine on my desktop, so no worries.

After some research we found that the problem is with your integrated video card. It does not fully support “Transform & Lighting”, (T&L) I have included a link to Intel’s support page and have also copy and pasted the information below. Unfortunately until Intel comes up with some new drivers to support T&L a lot of the newer games will not run properly. If you have another computer which does not use any of the video chipsets below your game will run without any issues. Please contact us again if you have any further questions.

Graphics
Support for Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L)
Only the Intel® G965 Express Chipset Family supports hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L)1. All other Intel® graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run.
1 Although the chipset hardware itself supports T&L, future graphics drivers will be required to utilize this feature.

RE: Error Code 18
Hia Guys,
I am not sure that this is a intel card/chipset issue.
I was getting the 18 error and have a radeon card 256mgs.
This is an older issue with the intel indeo codec, there is a patch to fix the codec issue that has been around a long time although from memory, they no longer offer it as a download. I will find the download and post a link! AFAIK, winxp service pack 2 did away with the indeo support and its been an issue since then, so not just vista, although the way the error comes across in vista seems different.
I will find a link to the old indeo file and it should fix any issues! It worked on my laptop that was giving me the 18 error code and with the other versions I had issues with.
Cheers - S

tLD doesn't use the intel codecs.
The vids have been recoded to microsofts own wmv format to avoid any compatibility issues.

Greg was looking at this...... so don't know the status now.
Anyone can try launching the game with the CTRL key held down.
From the options menu disable the video... if it's a codec/video problem this should fix it and the game will run... if the error persists it is not a codec/video problem.

RE: Error Code 18
Try this
Using Vista
1) Installation as Administrator in Win XP compatibility mode.
2) Starting by shortcut using Win XP compatibility mode
Maybe this will help you too.
On my Vista machine I log in as administrator always, i also have UAC disabled... I've had absolutely no problems running tLd or WaR.

You would have to ask Erik about that. Erik has taken over some of Gregs duties for now.
RE: Error Code 18
Should be another problem. Vista 64bit SP1 and UAC on. Installed CC Tld without the need to do anything special for compability.
Only problem I see is that the autorun.exe is not compiled with a manifest file which don't want to raise the user level. Now I have to always choose 'allow autorun.exe'. I tried to start CCE.exe from the explorer and it works fine with UAC on and no compability settings defined.

RE: Error Code 18
Hia Guys,
Sorry about the reply re: indeo codec, should have remembered that we switched codec with EYSA/CoI etc. See the word indeo and go into auto pilot mode for format on stream error. Looking through my notes on errors.
I have run WaR and TLD on Vista both 32 and 64 bit. I eventually found it was an AV problem, both Zone Alarm and my other AV security suites gave problems, although both were configured to allow the games to run. I stopped ZA from starting up on boot and both games fired up straight away. I then started ZA [Extreme] and the game locked straight away.
I am now running AVG free edition and everything runs great, it seems that the Code 18 is a catch all error, although Greg/Erik can correct me on this, I know when I first reported it to Greg, he had not come across it.
Cheers - Shaun

RE: Error Code 18
Is this a Vista/Zone Alarm issue? I have run the free Zone Alarm ( and Norton AV ) on my XP system for years with no Matrix game problems.
I have been thinking of upgrading my rig for some time but am concerned re: various Vista, and maybe future Windows 7, issues.
